"Whelm": over/under

Hooked up a decent radio this morning. 100.3 sounds fine.

Sounds like the former Citadel employee..aka.."The singing cowboy"..has posted some of his wisdom on this thread....HH would be well served if he just focused on pushing the right buttons and let Bob & Ed do their thing.

Let me clarify my statement. The only "tin can" audio I've noticed is on a few of the satellite delivered programs, not the in-studio programs.

BRice16,

You have no problem with crappy audio on the Citadel stations, but let some crappy audio show up on WNOX and it becomes a BIG DEAL!

And for someone who seems to detest the programming on WNOX you seem to be putting in a lot of time listening.

I think you've just outed yourself as a Citadel water carrier. But some of us had that figured out long ago anyway.

I didn't say it was a big deal, I just pointed out my observations. Isn't that what this forum is for?

Again, I don't "detest" the programming on WNOX, I just don't feel it compares with what other stations in the market have to offer, particularly in the afternoons, which is the only programming on the station that I really have any interest in. I'm not a fan of talk radio, outside of sports.

A Citadel water carrier? So because I admittedly listen to and enjoy the programming on 99.1, suddenly I'm a Citadel water carrier? Give me a break.

And further on the "Citadel water carrier" comment. Clearly you haven't been on this board very long, because I have quite the history of ripping Citadel here. When they bought out the Dick LMA on 100.3 and killed off the original River, I was practically leading the charge to burn their building down. I wanted Brantley's head on a plate.

I took great joy in the very public failure of Wild 98.7 and the quick pulling of the station after the stabbing on the strip at the Wild 98.7 remote, with their banners in the background of the pictures on the front page of the News-Sentinel.

You also must forget when the former PD of the Citadel-era River threatened to sue me for saying that he "ran the station into the ground." I was speaking musically, he thought I was speaking of ratings and he was trying to get a job in another market.

Water carrier? No. They finally came out with and stuck with a format that I like. That format now has a competitor (for three hours a day) that I have sampled and don't like, for a variety of reasons. That's my opinion, I'm sorry you don't feel I'm entitled to it.

I'm sure you're proud of your product and what you're putting out. But I would think that after all your years in radio you'd have a little thicker skin than this.

The processing on 98.7 sounds like it's ready to play urban jams. 'Sup Rush, my homie?

Sounds like they're using a broadband codec on remote or a super clean, wideband RPU, however, their studio sounds "old school" as in zero pre-processing.

They could definitely use an analog frammulator in conjunction with a digital speculometer set to reverse mode. As Keith Brunson will tell you, modulate out of the left side of the mike when Ed Martin is making the adjustments.

In the sixth week of talk wars,
My true love said to meeeee...

"Meh"

frammulator? huh? haven't seen one of those, at least yet.

Homies/Homeys (with apologies to TN Cowboy)...

The Bopper has held his tongue in the comparison of talk stations, but it is become clear that the 100.3 crew may have started showing they are the smarter stragegists.
1. Tim Burchett appears on Bob & Ed on election day. His honor would have been expected to make mulitple stations visits, but did not do so.
2. He reprises that appearance the next day, then goes to HHH on day 3.
3. On day 3, Burchett's wife feeds pastires to Bob & Ed and appears on air.
4. When the furor over the severance pay to the 3 "resigned" county officials broke, the 100.3 morning show covered it in depth on the day before the KNS. (Don't they know that beating the paper to a story is considered a sin in K-town media?).
5. When Bruce Pearl admitted getting caught in a lie, 100.3 was in the room, The Sports Animal was not. Phil was at the Phair...trying to get his remote to stay on the air. Who asked the key questions in the news conference? A guy named Dave Hooker of WNOX.
Granted, one swallow does not a Spring make, but I am hearing "gulps" on Old Kingston Pike.

Is it my imagination, or is the "whelm" beginning to grow into a pattern?

Who really cares at this point, 100.3 WNOX,(old school woki) can be heard where the "new WOKI" can't be heard...is 100.3 streaming yet? I'm looking forward to the "new wnox" getting more than a "one page" website, especially considering they are using Mediaspan, the same company that hosts all the citadel stations, including 98.7.

Did anyone else notice that 100.3 was completely off the air (static) until about 2pm Saturday, 9/11. I am not sure when it started.

Pretty embarrassing. Looks like somebody didn't have a generator.

Or enough of an audience to notice it.

Uhhhh.....hello, allow me to introduce some corrections here.

Not only did the Sports Animal carry the news conference in its entirety, so did its sister stations WIVK and WOKI. Also, they fed it directly two other stations as well as the 80 plus on the Vol Network (they are the flagship, you know). I guess it surprises you that Citadel Knoxville has the technical facilities or the know-how to pull this feat off without you visually seeing evidence. Perhaps you should listen once in a while to the stations you continually bash on here.

Oh, and I guess that the fact that all of their stations AND their studio have fully capable generators, that are fueled up and ready, exercised on a regular basis, and stay on the air are immaterial. They also have not one but two backup transmitters at a separate site (which also has a generator), and a fully separate AM backup transmitter as well. And their track record for staying on the air is pretty damn good.

Oh, and the Phil remote didn't go off the air. It was on the air as was the two other remotes that were on the air at the same time (WIVK and Sports Animal), as well as the 11 other live remotes that day. There were 13 in total on Friday.

Bash what you want to bash if you don't like the content or the people (which is another discussion separate from this one), but don't let a good sensational (WRONG) story get confused by the facts.
