Homies/Homeys (with apologies to TN Cowboy)...

T5. When Bruce Pearl admitted getting caught in a lie, 100.3 was in the room, The Sports Animal was not. Phil was at the Phair...trying to get his remote to stay on the air. Who asked the key questions in the news conference? A guy named Dave Hooker of WNOX.
Granted, one swallow does not a Spring make, but I am hearing "gulps" on Old Kingston Pike.

Is it my imagination, or is the "whelm" beginning to grow into a pattern?

Uhhhh.....hello, allow me to introduce some corrections here.

Not only did the Sports Animal carry the news conference in its entirety, so did its sister stations WIVK and WOKI. Also, they fed it directly two other stations as well as the 80 plus on the Vol Network (they are the flagship, you know). I guess it surprises you that Citadel Knoxville has the technical facilities or the know-how to pull this feat off without you visually seeing evidence. Perhaps you should listen once in a while to the stations you continually bash on here.

Oh, and I guess that the fact that all of their stations AND their studio have fully capable generators, that are fueled up and ready, exercised on a regular basis, and stay on the air are immaterial. They also have not one but two backup transmitters at a separate site (which also has a generator), and a fully separate AM backup transmitter as well. And their track record for staying on the air is pretty damn good.

Oh, and the Phil remote didn't go off the air. It was on the air as was the two other remotes that were on the air at the same time (WIVK and Sports Animal), as well as the 11 other live remotes that day. There were 13 in total on Friday.

Bash what you want to bash if you don't like the content or the people (which is another discussion separate from this one), but don't let a good sensational (WRONG) story get confused by the facts.

It's good that there are still assets remaining from the old Dick/Denton/Brantley/Henderlight days. And it's even better that the people remaining in Knoxville are proud of these assets. Most of the people on this board hope these stations can stay strong despite the lack of support from home office.

Citadel corporate, however, is a steaming pile of ******baggery. Especially for what it did to Ed.

And for any ******bags that resent being lumped in with Citadel corporate weasels, please accept my sincere apologies.

Let's have some clarity and truth.

Well, since something was mentioned that I actually know the answer to, I thought I would reply. WIVK-FM's main transmitter suffered a power failure early this morning, and subsequently the backup generator failed (don't know why, it was just serviced a couple of weeks ago). The auxiliary transmitter site located off of Middlebrook Pike at 44th Street was summoned into service until power at the main site was restored. The generator has been subsequently run under load for a couple of hours to insure it won't fail again.

Looks like your fleet of generators and backup transmitters aren't that reliable after all. You might want to run some more tests.

On clarity and truth, things happen that are beyond anyone's control. In my opinion, one thing is abundantly clear. Tim Berry has a tremendous workload yet he manages to do a remarkable job at making things work as they should. Besides that, he is a true gentleman.

My, my...aren't we touchy today? It was not my intent to bash anyone, regardless of what you way. I agree with Radio CEO that Tim Berry and his crew do a world class job at keeping a large and important group of stations on the air. But you change the discussion to fit your needs, focusing on technical assets, when my original post was all about who was in the room at the press conference and who was not. By changing the subject, you obviously feel that taking a pool feed is the same as being present. Forget asking important questions, forget studying the perpetrators and their crew of administrators, forget thoughtful post-meeting analysis, and just take the feed and leave the heavy lifting to your competition. Then, respond to comparisons of who is doing the best job by talking about generators and transmitters. I did make one mistake: I heard from in industry source that the remote from the fair went off. I could not verify it, because 98.7 has no signal where I was.
I learned from the same source what caused WNOX's generator to fail. A chewed-up old crown and scepter were found in the fuel tank.

The stations and papers that pay UT don't have to send anybody good to cover things like this. They get everything hand fed to them. And they don't dare screw up their deals by asking hardball questions.

Citadel reporter: "So, Coach Pearl, when did you realize you had inadvertently crossed the line on recruiting and needed to come clean? And, if I may follow up with another question, did you cry the bitter tears of remorse and later adopt a cute, furry kitten from an animal shelter? And what did you name it? Oh, that was more than one question. Oopsie! My bad!"

Somebody like a Tony Basilio: "So, Coach Pearl, what else have you lied about?"

Tim Berry is one of the best engineers around in radio, so is RadioCEO. Both are very highly respected in the field and very experienced. Both are well worth their pay. Equipment don't choose to fail during business hours, these folks are on call. Both are super gentlemen as well.

I'm just glad there's somebody else out there who sees the sports media in East Tennessee as the homers they are.

Let's face it, the bottom line is "underwhelmed"! We just hate to say it because we like the team there so much.

Who really cares at this point, 100.3 WNOX,(old school woki) can be heard where the "new WOKI" can't be heard...is 100.3 streaming yet? I'm looking forward to the "new wnox" getting more than a "one page" website, especially considering they are using Mediaspan, the same company that hosts all the citadel stations, including 98.7.

Streaming was wall to wall when I checked their website about an hour ago.

I just talked to a friend of mine in Ducktown and he got the streaming down there!

We don't get the internet in Morgan County. Gotta drive in to Oliver Springs to hear it. Or even to read this post.

Cowboy no Internet in Morgan County! Can you pick up HHH on 98.7?

Yep. Pretty sure Hammond cut a deal with one of the politicos up here to make it happen.

Hammond got a lot of power with the local politicos. I understand Hammond can get you in the Farragut July 4th Parade driving a lawnmower.
