When is it too early for Christmas music?

Trans Siberian Orchestra get played frequently at this time of year. I like several of their selections. My dad can't stand anything by them except their Christmas Canon song.

And I agree with that. And it's only when the children are singing. The rest of it is synthesized dreck. I could be wrong, but they don't sound like real violins to me, which would be great.

Manheim Steamroller sounds more synthesized to me.

Another thing my dad can't stand is the selections from the Charlie Brown Christmas cartoon.

Yes. How many times can I stand the following, 10 times a day every day:
"Merry Christmas Darling" Carpenters
"Believe" Josh Groban
"Christmas Song" Nat King Cole
"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" BOTH Andy Williams and Johnny Mathis
"All I Want For Christmas is You" Mariah Carey
...without going nuts?
-crainbebo
I do like all those except the last one, and I'm not really sure about Josh Groban. But would I want to hear them constantly? I don't know.

Don't forget "Little Drummer Boy" by Harry Simeone Chorale. That's another great one.

True about the first part. Now they do a great version of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen". And one that is not so good.

I do like everything from the Peanuts special but not necessarily other arrangements of those songs.

These are some soft pop/rock Internet stations I listen to. These stations mix in Christmas music with regular music. They tend to stay away from the novelty Christmas songs that I mentioned earlier.

This station plays two Christmas songs per hour. If Christmas falls on Saturday or Sunday, the station's specialty program, Magic of the 80's, which airs on Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 12 pm, will play a Christmas edition of the show. They start playing their Christmas music December 1.

This station will play a Christmas song at 4:10 pm, then, after 3 non-Christmas songs, they will play another Christmas song at 4:23 pm and keep repeating that rotation of Christmas after every 3 non-Christmas. A lot of the Christmas songs are by crooners (Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, etc.). They also like a lot of Christmas songs by the cast of Glee. They also play several Christmas songs by American Idol alums, Carrie Underwood and Mandisa. They start playing their Christmas music around Thanksgiving.

This is another station I like. They have yet to start playing Christmas music.

What do the songs "All Through The Night" and "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep" have to do with Christmas?

All through the Night? Is that what I think it is? If so it's a good song, but weird that they're playing it in a Christmas format.

Not trying to be a know-it-all, but Earnest Tubb recorded the first version of "Blue Christmas" in 1949. Not sure how they have that song written in 1964.

From looking up info about the song on Wikipedia, the 1964 date is apparently the release date of Elvis Presley's version.

Oh I see. Sadly most people don't know about ET's version. Actually, according to Eddie Stubbs, Elvis didn't want to record this song because Earnest Tubb's version is really powerful, and Elvis didn't think he could do it justice. He really overdid his Elvis style and had the backup vocals in there to deliberately make it sound bad so it would not be a hit, which of course didn't work. I love both versions, but ET's version will absolutely break your heart if you've ever lost someone or otherwise can't be with them on Christmas. Sorry for the music nerdiness.
