When Will CC Take Over KQJK-93.7?

from what i hear, they'll keep the format the way it is, likely with a different brand-name.

When CBS sold KFJK in Fresno to PEAK Broadcasting they kelp the JACK name. There are other NON CBS stations that are JACK,They did start the name though, but their not putting any restrictions on the use of the name.
But CC would still have to pay to continue using the JACK name. I believe that JACK is trademark and stations using that name have to pay for the rights to continue using it. It would be easier and CHEAPER just to change it to another name like GEORGE or RAY or BOB and not pay the fee to keep the JACK name. The Adult Hits format can remain unchange.

I Have Heard that JACK FM in Fresno is gone! They Are Now News/Talk KMJ-FM!

What are the chances that CC will do the same with KQJK and make it KFBK-FM.
Seems to be a trend just like KCBS 740 and KFRC 106.9.

Not sure. KCBS is simulcasting 100% of its programming on 106.9 while KMJ is simulcasting only its Morning News on 105.9 with the rest being other syndicated talk, however they still have Music on Weekends albeit 60's & 70's Classic Hits and not the Adult Hits that JACK had. I think this move was more on competing against Talk Newcomer, KYNO-1300. CC monopolizes NEWS/TALK and doesn't need to create a NEW News/Talk station HOWEVER CC can simulcast 100% of KFBK's News/Talk Programming either on 93.7 or the upcoming 93.1?

why would CC simulcast KFBK, when the KFBK-AM signal is nearly perfect throughout the Smaller KQJK listening area.

The AM band is slowly dying. Younger listeners (ones who never listened the AM in the first place) that don't listen to KFBK would potentially listen to it on FM.

KCBS's AM signal is stronger than it's FM, KMJ's AM signal is stronger than it's FM also.

KFBKs 25-54 numbers are erroding because few people younger are replacing the aging audience of the station. Every year, a percentage of KFBK's 25-54 numbers ages out of the demo and they become virtually worthless to national buyers.

Since Clear Channel has little competition in the News/Talk arena...(Sorry Salem), they could get away with not simulcasting on FM for a little while.

It's usually a risk for a company to blow up an FM in favor of simulcasting an AM. The revenue lost on the FM flip must be made up by the added revenue from the assumed larger and younger audience gained by the simulcast. In the case of KCBS, it was a no-brainer since KFRC-FM had low ratings and little billing. Assuming that KQJKs billing is decent, it may not be good idea to drop the format for a simulcast because Clear Channel probably probably needs revenue right now. They do have zero billing 93.1 coming on right now, so who knows.

Bonneville has had some success in Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Washington DC by moving their "mainstream" ( News and Right Wing talk) to FM. Their 25-54 numbers are back up.

CC will continue the JACK programming, imaging and identity, at least for the time being...

Tuned in this morning...sounded like the usual JACK, however I did hear the familiar "my-92.5" title/artist stamp sneak in after a Van Halen track...definately CC!

Audio sounds similar to post-switch...I do notice a faint high-end noise continuous in the background (similiar to what 101.9 has). Only really audible during stopsets.

jvparent - it sounds as if you may be close to the situation at CC. Any insight to what we can expect on the new 93.1??

But their website still bears the CBS,INC logo? Wouldn't CC remove that and put in their own corporate logo?

just got off the phone with a very, very, very, upset friend of mine who works at CBS. Apparently with the loss of JACK-FM, they lost two very talented people at CBS, a Production guy, and The KHTK Promotions Directer.

Apparently the Jack Promotions Director has been moved to KHTK, and production guy Ned is now with KHTK as well.

No word on what they're doing with that extra studio.

i did hear a "call jack" solicit earlier today, but there was no telephone number tacked on. sounds like they just straight up ripped the cds of JACK imaging and forgot to localize it. (wait this is clear channel, i forgot, localization isn't in their dictionary)

I live in Fresno, Did CC get rid of JACK-FM KQJK, PEAK did it hear, it wasn't working here with the competition with KKBZ and the new 107.1 KHIT. there was to many stations playing CLASSIC ROCK/HITS ,it did leave a void for MODERN/NEW WAVE 80s HITS though.

The music sure sounds a lot different from the CBS Jack. Anyone else notice any differences in the music?

Yes. Less rock, more 80's pop... back to back. Seems the variety has been pared down.

usually cc adult hits stations play more variety, like some classic rhythmic songs and some today's music

But isn't a company (be it CC, CBS or anyone else) that licensed the "JACK" name and format bound to use the same playlist originated by the founder of the JACK format? Otherwise CC could use another name?

I think the playlist is locally researched and no two Jack stations are exactly alike. LA's Jack has a tighter list of songs than the one in San Diego. Thus, the LA Jack has higher ratings. It's one thing to have a broad playlist when you have multi genres, but when you throw in the kitchen sink and ignore the spoke rule (Which means if you play a weaker song, it's okay as long as you surround it with powers), you lose.

CC may have tweaked the playlist, but I'm suprised by the changes I'm reading about here. Doesn't sound closer to KGBY (My Oh My 92.5) now?
