When will Christmas come to Greenville?

I'm not sure if many Hot AC stations lose listeners to all-Christmas stations. Very, very few go all-Christmas. 102.5 essentially promotes themselves as an adult alternative to B, so it sounds like they're more concerned about competing with them than Magic. The market doesn't need 2 all-Christmas stations, especially considering 24/7 Christmas music is losing its luster.

I agree. If people want Christmas music, they can get it on Magic (as well as the multitude of smaller Christian stations in the area). Believe me, I like to get into the Christmas spirit when I'm putting up the tree and at times during the week of the holiday itself. But 24/7 is too much. I cringed seeing people actually asking for them to play it on their FB page. It's not like they don't have an alternative to get it.

But, regardless, I think in their current position going after B's older target audience much like Star 94 tries to do in Atlanta against its CHRs, they'd be crazy to do it. They'd actually be likely to lose audience to B during that timeframe. That's not something you want to take a chance on when you're finally getting decent ratings with Hot AC.

Yeah, they remind me a lot of Star 94. Fortunately, they've still not gone all-Christmas, so that's a good sign. There have still been a couple of people asking for it. Magic does it just fine, and it fits the format better. There's no reason for a second station to do it, especially considering it doesn't do that great these days.

If there's any hope to be found, I've noticed they've never said they'll be going all-Christmas - just a generic "we'll be playing it on the radio later this month." I guess the optimist in me wants to think maybe they'll just mix it in with the rest of the music, which would be tolerable. They sound good, I see they've bee playing the new Goo Goo Dolls, Fray, Fitz & The Tantrums, American Authors, etc., definitely more fresh than in times past.

A good way for My to do it would be what I heard on the Muzak in one store. Only contemporary artists doing either traditional or new songs. Not the traditional versions by Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby and the New Christy Minstrels that I want.

It's the end of the month (essentially) and still no Christmas on My. They've never held out this long. If they're going to go all-Christmas, they're a little late to the game. Maybe they'll just mix some Christmas music in starting Thanksgiving or so?

MY has started occasionally playing Christmas music, but it is not going to be continuous like in years past. It's very sparse.
Star in MB has already gone all-Christmas, though it was technically the only AC until this year. The other one doesn cover the entire market and I doubt anyone knows it's even there.

I mention this because people seem to categorize Star as Hot AC.

That's great. Haven't been listening, but hope they keep it sparse and mostly more contemporary versions of the songs. Still don't need Bing Crosby on Hot AC regardless of Christmas or not.

I think it was the right thing to do. There are STILL some people mad on the MY Facebook page about them not going all-Christmas. LOL.

Maybe Magic and Entercom will get the message after this year that people don't want wall to wall Christmas music anymore.
