It's almost September, how come nobody's playing Christmas Music yet? ;D

This year it will start in mid October when the Wow-wick Mall has its Grand Opening. That will be the excuse this year.

Yes, I know they had a soft opening this week.

Lord willin' and the creek don't rise......

Doesn't matter to me, with the option of Satellite radio, I could care less who starts when.  But I say maybe Halloween this year and maybe seeing some kids dressing up as Santa.  Maybe some radio stations will have contests and give prizes to kids who dress as Santa.  As stupid as this all Christmas thing is for stations to do (in many people's opinions) it's all about the almighty add revenue and ratings, and they will do whatever it takes to make that fast cash.  So let them.  We don't have to listen.  Another reason to check out Satellite radio, and I am sure at that time of year, more people are considering it, and those who have it are thankful they do.  I could give a crap about ratings, because that's the only thing a corporate owned station cares about, they don't care about the listeners (except the ones who listen regardless of whatever is played), they only care about the $$.  If it sells, it plays, and that is it.  Whatever listeners they have, seem to be enough to give them the sales and ratings they need.  I will not be stuck with what's on corporate owned radio.  As soon as 103.3 WODS goes Christmas, it's 630 WPRO, 1030 WBZ, Fun 107 (107.1), B101, or Satellite.  However, I will enjoy some Christmas music....sometimes, especially closer to the holiday.

Really smart programmers will stick with seasonal music on themes like Santa Claus, reindeer, holly, snow, ice, but avoid any of the traditional religiously themed pieces. To do otherwise is to invite pickets, sponsor boycotts and lawsuits.

Instrumentals are probably OK so long as nobody announces the titles.

Since when has Christmas music on a commercial radio station inspired anybody to picket or file a lawsuit? Not trying to start an argument, but that's not something I've seen anywhere..

When it comes right down to it, there are two classes of listeners when it comes to Christmas Music--those who want more, more, more--and those who can't stand a single note, and will tune you out when it starts..and I've dealt with both..and I'm sure I'm not alone on this topic, or on this board..

As someone who was in music radio when "Dear Mister Jesus" was a hit one Holiday Season, I hate most of it with a passion..but I still a include a few Xmas tunes on my IPod just for variety..

Patience, Grasshopper.

There's money to be made and it'll be made by lawyers, not by radio station owners.

Let us both kick back and see what happens this year. Wouldn't it be nice if I were wrong?

So things are just going to miraculously change this year? Most commercial stations don't play an inordinate amount of secular music to begin with, very rare those songs are back-to-back. Not sure how a legitimate lawsuit can be constructed, regardless.
