WHERE ARE THE UNIONS?

[So you don't like my answer, yet you do not have one of your own? So in your situation, my job sucks, my boss sucks and I'm not getting paid enough to pay my bills, but I can't go look for another job. Does that about sum it up?

I think you're misunderstanding me, perhaps on purpose.

Where did I ever say you *can't* look for another job? Look all you want. But good luck with that, since other jobs won't be any better. And for those of us who don't have the funds to support us while we're out of work, we're, uh, out of luck.

"Don't like the fact that you lost both your legs in a horrible accident? Just grow another pair! Problem solved."

It also means that you can't be bothered with other people who aren't in your personal situation. They could be valuable allies later down the road, but apparently considering how others may be affected is an unfamiliar concept to you. Some workmate you are. I'd hate to be in a foxhole with you.

No, what you failed to see is that I was in the same situation that the people are in who were fired. But instead of whining about it waiting for the incompetent union to do something about it, I made it on my own. I fixed it where nobody could ever take my livelyhood away from me simply because they didn't make budget this quarter. But I suppose you were bloviating so much on your own personal "woe is me" story, you missed it.

Who the hell was whining?

I told one personal horror story. ONE. I didn't exactly say that was the story of my life.

Who's failing to see what?

In your previous posts, you're the one who's resorted to name-calling, labeling unions as incompetent, trying to bask in artificial light of your own making, and completely ignoring my counterpoints and moving on to other attempted smears. In my previous exchange with Big E, neither one of us ever resorted to that level.

[EDIT]

You're entitled to your opinion, but there are tactful ways of putting it across. That is what you're failing to see.

The only reason....

The only reason that Hollywood EXISTS is because of unions!! Most film and TV employees are known as "Below the line" workers. These are the gaffers, the editors, the camera operators, the sound guys, the best boys, the assistant directors, and 1001 other job descriptions. These people all do well-BECAUSE OF UNIONS!! Want me to work more then 8 hours in a day? Sure. But you pay. Want me on a holiday? You pay. A weekend? You pay.....and so on. Without unions, Los Angeles would be HALF the size it is!! Yet, STUPID radio people bought into the BS that the station owners fed them. They got their egos masturbated by the owners-and voted out the unions. Now it's too late!
You suckers played right into their hands. How does it feel to be royally SCREWED? Good?

Many of the same jobs that pay 10 dollars an hour in radio pay 5 TIMES that amount in the film and TV industries! Why? UNIONS!!!!!

Are Unions perfect? No way. They tend to maintain the status quo. They keep workers in their place. BUT..they're ALSO the reason that my friend made over $250K last year as a film (Avid) editor, while my doing basically the same thing in radio garnered me less than 1/4 of that!

Problem is, it's too late to unionize radio. As someone else here said, computers and automation systems don't NEED pay!

I hope the bed you all made is comfortable for you, because now you have to lie in it-FOREVER!!!

Personally, my bed SUC*S!!

Considering how much red is in your post, I can see you are the expert in tactfulness.

Whatever I said, I guess the moderators felt that you couldn't handle it.

What took you so long to get back to us?

And once again, you don't address previous counterpoints.

In my experience, the union was a necessary evil. While
the union did nothing but further itself in the time I was
affiliated with AFTRA in L.A., ignoring the radio stations
and going after the more lucrative TV stations, as soon as
the union contract was not renewed, those in
programming, now without protection, were treated miserably.

They're like agents. You gotta work 'em.
