Where does WKLU get it's traffic information?

Thanks for setting us straight Pat

Who's Pat? And I am not a female, as far as I know.

I have been doing traffic and news for almost 8 years and I have been all over the country working or visiting other traffic centers and trust me, this is how traffic is done. Metro uses scanners and phone calls, Shadow uses scanners and phone calls, Clear Channel Total Traffic uses scanners and phone calls, and here in California we are lucky enough to have a CHP website for public information about incidents on the freeways. I am sure other states may have similar public info sites about traffic as well.

From now on we'll just clear all questions about Indianapolis radio with Patty from California -she seems to not only know how the stations around here operate, but is pretty convinced we have no idea what we're talking about.

I know how traffic info gathering and reporting operates in ANY market.

I think there should be a 24 hour a day Traffic station.

Up to the second traffic reports. You could even throw some weather in now and then ;D

As far as the topic of this thread, just tell me about the accident before I get there is all I ask.

Your wish is my command - see AM 730 - All Traffic All The Time. The station even has its own Traffic Helicopter and cameras located around Vancouver, BC, CA.

(Yes, it's a Canadian station, but it meets required CanCon rules - heck, it's 100% Canadian Traffic Updates.)

Did I Get this right? Does someone here have inside secret information that Russ is getting his
traffic from listening to WFBQ? Is he really a Q95 fan keepin it on the low?

If the station does not quote a source, that means they have no LEGITIMATE source.

My usual morning drive consists of listening to AM950 ESPN, for Mike and Mike. I paid close attention to the traffic, and surprise! No source there, either. Darn thieves are everywhere. You guys could blow the lid off the biggest scandal since the Mudville nine. Bravo for all your good work.

Or, you could give some real evidence to theft. If you don't have it, don't post mindless drivel here on the boards.

You simply keep proving the point. Is it any coincidence that you just pointed out TWO of the bottom-feeder stations in Indy that don't credit their traffic source? Wonder why that is?

You KNOW Old Skool prowls these pages and if it wasn't true, he would be pointing out in the third-person how RUSS doesn't steal his traffic reports from other stations.

Don't forget to put that on your resume!

Now that Russ knows who you aren't, he has no reason to be bated by you. And where did DeVasher go? Wasn't this his thread? Why did you take up his cause?

WXNT, another bottom feeder station, actually gathers it's own traffic, doesn't it? Where do they "steal" their info from?

Don't worry BSU, I'm here. WXNT is an affiliate of Metro Networks as are WIAU/WXLW. When you are an affiliate you don't have to credit the source...just run the spot. I believe metro network employees voice the traffic on all these mentioned stations. I heard Wendy Carroll doing traffic on WXNT this morning on my way in.

I dont credit my traffic sources...am I stealing? NO---for the simple fact that I derive my information from public usable sources..i.e. scanners and phone calls to police dispatch. This is not even to mention airplanes, helicopters and spotters, all of which need not be credited as a source.

Just because someone doesnt quote a sorce in no way implies that the information is stolen.

For news and traffic I always loved WIBC withthe Whirlybird. Let this radio pirate tell you. If you need to pirate, go with the best. Is that AM radio still in the studio that I sold to Russ along with the WKLU license?

Look Russ is on the air - ALL THE TIME - telling the FEW that still listen that commercials are bad. He is not going to make a deal w/metro, traffic.com or anyone else that requires him to run additional inventory in exchange for a service unless it's something He or Libby wants. Regardless of what the audience/research indicates!
Beattles' Brunch for example in that hour on Sunday morning you hear more than 6 commercials - maybe 12 or 16 an hour, and many of those are national, or "network".
Several months ago it appeared WKLU had a partnership w/Channel 6, has gone away? The way those partnerships typically work is...the TV station provides you a service, that your audience is interested in, runs promos for you on their respective station in exchange for access to your audience. Heck, most time you can even negotiate a larger share of the media buy because of the partnership....that is if you have someone in place who understands how to negotiate....
btw - heard another a.e. just left..Mo' money avail for the rest of you :)

I know I hear Paul Poteet a lot on Abdul's morning show on XNT, but I haven't heard anyone on KLU from 6. Does Paul do that for the station or is he paid for himself?

How can an AE make any commission there? With the dramatic slide in the latest ratings, they can't sell spots, so they disguise it as "commercial free." How can you make a living as an AE if you can't sell the product?
