Where has all the news gone?

I was listening to WTVN this evening and noticed they quit running local news after Corby signs off the air. That leaves the hours of 7p-5a void of anything local. It looks like the "Giant" has been kicked off his beanstalk.
Just a programming perspective FWIW, but the money dayparts end at 7p for the Arbitron books. I know that's no concern for the listeners who want live news, but looking at it from the business angle, it makes sense.

Here's an idea:

55KRC's used to run news updates from WKRC-TV (I think it's WLWT now). Maybe WBNS-TV can do the news breaks after 7PM? Of course, knowing Clear Channel that would mean the entire news department would eventually get outsourced, but it's better than having the city's big AM station on autopilot at night.

Don't hold your breath. WHAS/Louisville has a TV weather person doing weather 24/7 but they haven't done the same with news. Want local news on radio nights & weekends? Tough luck...and that sucks IMHO.

Couldn't they do it on the barter system? How much extra effort would it take for Kevin Landers or whoever was available to step in front of a microphone for 2 minutes every hour? I used to listen to WKRC when Rush Limbaugh was on time delay here ...... I remember Dave Purchell coming on at the top of the hour and thinking to myself that it didn't seem like they had to go through too much effort to crank out a bunch of headlines at the top of the hour.

Here's another idea, since they voice-track dj's ...... couldn't they have some guy from Cincinnati or another market regurgitate scripts from earlier in the day? Would anybody even notice? It would at least sound like someone is there.

I believe in any market CC is in does not subscribe to Metro Networks for anything. CC has its own Traffic Network, and CC's Premire Radio Networks produces Fox News Radio thus they have a national news network so to speak. I'm Sure if the world ended today CC CBus would you WLW and WTAM for its news reports if WTVN's News Department was out of the building for the weekend

Bob:

WHIO/Dayton does live local newscasts from 5 am through midnight, weekdays. And there's people in the station around the clock who can interrupt with weather or traffic information at any time. (Plus, there's someone in the newsroom around the clock...and the morning news people start coming in around 2 am...so we've been live at 3:30 am) In addition, there's some live, local news coverage on the weekends, too. With, again people in the station around the clock in case of emergency coverage (and newsstaff on call at anytime to come running if big news breaks).
