Our long time news anchor, Chris Marrou, retired a few weeks ago, after 30+years on KENS channel 5, in San Antonio. Yeah, San Antonio. We're hardly ever mentioned anywhere. Anyway, a few days before the retirement, KENS 5 announced Marrou's replacement. Instead of choosing one of the other highly qualified and knowledgeable newscasters/co-anchors, who have been at KENS 5 almost as long as Marrou, the suits picked some Kansas boy! Its bad enough that the other TV stations newsreaders can barely pronounce street names or even know which part of town their own little McMansion is crammed into, now we have to endure some new kid from Kansas! I guess he was a lot cheaper than the seasoned talent that KENS 5 has on hand. But so far the new guy hasn't appeared. When's he gonna start, after slopping the hogs and milking the cows? Now the only news person with any real local knowledge left on local TV is a meteorologist! KSAT-12's Steve Browne has been here since the late 80's (?) and always has the most accurate forecast of all the weatherpeople. Browne can tell it like it is, for all parts of town, because here in San Antonio, it may be hailing softballs on one end of town, pouring down buckets in downtown, while the other end basks in tranquil, serene sunshine. Kansas! Ha!
