Where Rock Lives 92.3 KROCK

wow .. this thread reminds me of the old KTU/WNEW days when dance fans hated that NYC had TWO classic dance music stations and none playing new Dance... I feel your pain rock fans!

have a nice day playing the Doors, Jimi Hendrix a million times over. If I need new music I'll go to q-104.3 they seem to be playing it more then k-rock.

To quote Metallica... Sad but true!

Cbs has two big failures on there hands krock 92.3 in nyc and kzon jamz 101.5 in phoenix. They need to blow both of them up immediately!!!

I don't understand it. K-Rock had so much potential of being the new rock of new york. I remember getting goosebumps hearing the aircheck when they flipped from Free-Fm back to K-Rock. Link provided below.

But listening to the collage, they were at first, heading in the right direction. What happened? Other that typical CBS b/s?

I wouldn't say goosebumps but, yeah, it was kind of cool to hear them back. They were never current-heavy at all (at most they used to play 1 maybe 2 an hour) but it was still more of an alternative rock mix (though they still needed to remind their listener of "old school rock" at least once an hour). I just can't imagine who actually gets any enjoyment out of listening to it. I'm sure there are your trucker rockers who enjoy their non-stop daily dose of Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Van Halen mixed in with the "non-faggy" bands of the 90's (STP, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc.) but do these listeners really have enough disposable income to attract advertisers? What about all the mid-20-somethings (ahem) who may not be high rollers but have cash to spend on small luxuries from time to time? No advertiser is interested in them? The baby boomers are going to have to die off someday (apologies if you're in that crowd) and we can't have our radio stations catering to the 60's/70's generations forever, even if the younger generations do appreciate classic rock. We can't be a nostalgia-based generation, we need to have our songs, times, bands, etc. and radio really helps build the community around that. Without it, we're just left to go off to our various niche internet streams, MySpace pages, blogs, etc. and lose any sort of community all while struggling to maintain the oh-so-important "individuality".

If they're serious, watch Chernoff bring in Bob Buchmann to steer the reins. Smart money says "the mole" is in house shortly. Watch.

And Zach Martin, former Q104 jock, was on K-Rock Sunday evening (12/14/08). I think you're on to something.

Zach works for Chernoff at the FAN...he's the Creative Services guy. So there's your synergy. Not sure if that adds any creedence to Buchmann coming there, but I'd sure hire him...

Speak for yourself, I was quite high roller back when I still had my job in Finance.

Expect to see the millenials targeted heavily once we real start to recover from this depression in winter '10/'11. By then the oldest boomers will be what, 66?

Keep in mind that by hiring Martin and Allen to deejay at 92.3 FM, CBS Radio is saving two salaries -- they're making these two guys do two jobs for one pay.

Expect to see more of this when all the CBS Radio stations move to the new Hudson Street studios.

CBS = Cheap Broadcasting System

92.3 K-Rock, Where Rock is on Life Support. Enough with the classic rock already, that's why we have Q104.3. Emmis/WRXP should just take the lead now and go FNX/EQX-style alternative, and who cares what happens to K-Rock. At this point, an endless loop of burping would get better ratings.

I have been barely listening, I can hardly make it to Eddie Trunk anymore but I heard on 92.3 this morning that their doing an "all request hour" at 9pm Monday through Friday... This will be interesting did you guys hear the same thing?

Right, but I'm saying, you still go out to eat, spend money on entertainment and items you want (considering you're younger). You (probably) don't have kids, a full mortgage, etc. Why not target that audience? Why continue to rely on the aging 40-55 year-olds who used to fire up the bong back in the day to Led Zeppelin and now live in middle-class NJ with 2 kids in public school and a wife with fake nails?

It is obvious CBS could careless about 92.3 and what the public wants. They will keep playing the god awful geezer rock sorry to say.

CBS is wasting there time with grandpa geezer rock and refuse to change with the times.
