Where Will Wease Resurface Come August?

It's safe to assume that Brother Wease's denial of the latest contract offer from Entercom includes a non-compete clause of six months.

With that said, which crosstown station will likely end up landing Wease in the dog days of summer once the dust and the non-compete settles?

Gotta love those out-of-market "experts" who assume so much.

Maybe you should go read some of the other Wease posts to get the local view on his options with other stations.

Contrary to popular belief—I think Wease could easily end-up on a Clear Channel station. When big name talent leaves one station and becomes available, all bets are off, not even “hiring freezes” can stand in the way of a know personality that can easily increase the bottom line.

• On the beach in Costa Rica?
• Sitting in his backyard smoking a cigar?
• At his tattoo parlor?
• Assisting WXXI's Pledge Drive. ;D

There have been a number of scenarios written on here as to where Wease might land up.
Personally I just don't see Clear Channel doling out the big bucks this guy wants. Can you imagine the reaction from other morning personalities at CC knowing Wease is pulling down more bread then they are?

One suggestion is that Wease might be part of a local group of investors in the three FM's Entercom has to unload by this summer. That's a possibility, if he has the money to invest.

I don't see him buying the two Crawford stations because I don't think the Crawford family would sell them right now. They want to see how their Legends format will work on FM first.

I'm not saying that Wease will never return to the airwaves; after all many people thought Imus was finished last April and he's back on the air. But I do know one thing; he's not going to get the kind of money he was making at CBS; not in this economy and especially the route broadcasting is taking today factoring in the number of talent that has been let go in other (larger) markets, making far less than Wease did.

Right now, Rover is off the air in a contract negotiation fallout with CBS Radio. Clear Channel's WMMR is the heavy favorite to land him, and immediately, as there was no non-compete clause in Rover's original contract. Whether CC makes hiring freeze exemptions for local superstars will be determined based on the outcome of this story.

August? How About July?

If Wease's contract ran out at the end of December, and IF he has a 6-month non-compete, I expect that he'll be trying to get back on the air before August.

Supposedly, the Clear Channel sale is supposed to be consumated in the middle of March. After that, who knows what edicts will be issued by corporate?

The most recent "no-hire" policy isn't that unusual while you're waiting for a sale to close. The outgoing owners want to maximize profits. The incoming owners don't want to be stuck with contracts that they don't want to honor.

Wease could end up at a Clear Channel station - IF Clear Channel is still a player in Rochester by August. There's no guaranty there, either. Wease could also end up working for a new player in the market, especially if 'CMF is bundled with 'PXY as part of Entercom's sell-off.

In any event, his paycheck will be a fraction of what CBS payed him, and he'll have lost over $100K in the meantime.

I agree with Roxalot's post, in that 8/10ths is a fraction, as is 1/10. Not sure what the dough will be, none of us are.

I'd also advise rookies to beware of any post that begins with "safe to assume", even if it's from me :).

Roxalot stays with the focus of talent losing money, so I will stay with my glass half empty for management stance. I think Entercom loses bigger money.

That said, I could be wrong (please don't faint). While the Men's Room is a horrible name for a show, they have approximately six months to sink or swim. Wease was off the air once before (3 years ago?) for a few months, and if memory serves, the bottom did not drop out. (Did anybody see the extraps?)

It is safe to assume (oops) that Entercom did not guarantee anything to the present show, and hopes they keep enough audience to make it pencil. No doubt that's the pitch that Dolyle made. If they do that, I will congratulate them. It is risky, given Wease's legacy of strong performace.

Meanwhile, it is easy to see who the smart people are sometimes by what they leave out of their posts.

Sales Wease(l)

Maybe Wease is going to go into sales. Picture him in a 3-piece suit with monogrammed French cuffs.

Or, maybe he's going to buy airtime, and syndicate himself.

PS - JG, I'll split the difference with you, and settle on 5/10s - which is what Entercom allegedly offered him.

There is word from qualified sources indicating that WHAM-AM is interested in hiring Wease as a talk show host. At what price and at what time are not known, nor is the application of the recently announced Clear Channel national hiring freeze. Could be interesting.

Wham!

Maybe that's why Bob was uncharacteristically kissing up to Wease on the air. Bob & Alan - the George Michael & Andrew Ridgeley of Rochester.

Wease, the Anti-Lonsberry. Who goes to accomodate him - Rush, or Beck?

Who goes to accomodate him

1. Crazy speculation... some here already know what is up.
2. Entercom will try to make a few smart moves to stem the potential for bleeding. We'll see if that works several months from now.

SR; Entercom "allegedly" does lots of things that are proven innacurate, in my experience. Then again, you may be right.

Even on WHAM, can't see him making more than he was likely offered by Entercom.

So why would that be attractive, especially considering he's going to end up doing a lot more work--sans most, if not all of his crew.

Ain't so easy going it alone.

Are you ready for this..........jack fm going live wease comin on board......stay tuned youll hear about it soon.......deal or no deal....whatta you think? Mornings on 97 better yet afternoons......maybe he'll take
your job......

Rumor has it Wease is selling a text-messaging service available for $5/month. Apparently, the content of the texts are what's going on in his daily life. WTF?

We now know it's Fox 95.1, and if anyone knows how soon any non-competes he had expire, and whether or not Entercom has legal power to enforce an expired contract concluded by another company, then they know how soon the new Wease Morning Circus will debut on the Fox.

This will probably be the opening move in the hiring of a full live staff for the Fox, at least coverning morning, midday and afternoon drive if not early evening as well. These days, stations with a big budget live morning show are once again trying to keep it live and local in other key dayparts to keep people from straying from their favorite morning station during the rest of the day. Some of the more prominent folks recently let go by Entercom could soon wind up at 207 Midtown...

13WHAM: Brother Wease announced Wednesday that he has signed an agreement with Clear Channel Entertainment to host a morning show on WFXF-FM 95.1... Because of a legal non-compete restriction... a starting date for his new show has not been announced.

Gotta love the fact that I'm right! Not bad for an out-of-towner! ;D
