Depends. What am I selling?

Educational toys, books and games, computer games etc. for ages 2 through 15, stuff like that.

I might skip radio completely if your focus is that age group. I'd buy cable; Service Electric, Comcast, etc. Cable buys are inexpensive; you can target an area and target an audience by placing your spots on a channel that fits your product. Kids that will ask their parents to buy what you mention aren't listening to radio, at least not in any significant numbers, and that includes the 15 year olds.

Agreed -- but aren't their parents?

...Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?...

Parents would purchase the educational products if they are of any value just to stifle their children's constant nattering about wanting the product, I believe. And if they are truly educational and would hold the age group’s attention for more than two minutes I would imagine parents wouldn’t think twice about making a purchase. So I agree with masterg that radio may not be the best venue for showcasing those products.

And also have a web site available they can go look at. You can only cram a limited message in 30 or 60 seconds where a web site is unrestricted…

OK- I work for this station...

BUT...

If you are looking to hit young parents with young children...why not do something with WVIA and their family programming?

You'd have to get into an underwriting situation, which would cost a small fortune...and frankly, I don't think the audience is there.

I agree with the post about cable tv. It will take a while to build the frequency, but its the most cost effective for your target audience. Use the radio around the holidays and buy traffic/news sponsorships.

We've done VIA before and will again.

The cable and traffic ideas are good ones . . . . Thanks!
