Embargoed.
please explain......
The ratings are only available to Arbitron subscribers.
everybody gives up at least 12+ numbers to allaccess, and that isn't giving up much. well then, are the agencies getting the numbers? or is nobody buying them in the market..?

When the ratings are embargoed, publishing the 12+ numbers is prohibited.
According to the Fall 2011 book, the following stations are authorized to use the ratings as of the publication date: WBBI-FM, WENE-AM, WINR-AM, WKGB-FM, WMRV-FM, WMXW-FM.

so CC can use the book..compared to WHAT?? so in reality, no-one knows anything about the Binghamton market, WHY would anyone make an advertising buy?

As a TV engineer I'm stepping out of my realm but... Who, other than the station, really cares who's #1?

If I'm spending $X to get Y ears in Z demographic from Station A, do I care if I might have been able to spend some undetermined number of $$ to get some undetermined number of ears from Station B? I'm still getting what I'm paying for.

Now, for those who *are* in radio...

What causes Arbitron to embargo a market? Do I understand that happens when someone is caught using data they haven't paid for?

Correct in that CC can use the book.
All of the stations that were reported by listeners are still listed in the book. Listener estimates are still listed for the non-subscribing stations.
Not sure what you mean by nobody knowing anything about the market or why someone would make a buy.

if i want to buy ads in that market from someone other than CC, how do i know how their stations stack up? 12+ are a throwaway why are those not even published?

If you are an agency you may purchase a subscription to the books. This market is so under sampled anyway it's not very accurate ....

I'll agree with Shimes100 on this market being under sampled. Stations yo-yo so much, you really need to look at the 2-book average to see the whole picture.

i don't know any PD in any market who would disagree with you, especially if their station is losing, but they are Rated.

Doesn't take a losing station PD to know the sample size is too small. Nice dig... Thats all this board is for... disresepct...

i guess Nobodyin Binghamton gets fired over Ratings huh..
what kind of competition can you have when NO ONE is keeping score? i'm not sure i would like PD'ing in that kind of enviornment.

The buyers...agencies...have access. They know. All that matters.
ok, and i guess that gets filtered down to stations who didn't buy the book through word of mouth, but they can't use the numbers on the street.

With 3 b's in the market... it's hard to take over those kinds of signals. Most of the PD's here are just doing whats handed down to them anyway.

In this day and age ... a PD isn't just a PD... Here in this town I can think of EVERY PD here doing a lot more than just PDing. they are managing networks, fixing stuff, handling traffic, continuity, doing promotions at sporting events on thier own dime, for god sakes even making sure the TP is well stocked.

We all realize that Arbitron in this market is a complete and uppder joke. We all know where we stand and your right noone loses their job because of a bad book or two.

This market takes forever to build a station/stations.. and even the ones you think are gonna do well... they don't.

There is no competition to the Hawk, the WAAL or even WNBF... you can't beat them... They are extremely heritage, with killer signals. It's been tried ... so the rest of the market plods along ...

We all make money and we all survive. Numbers on the street in this market don't mean squat to 98 percent of the buyers. Most buy format or franchise.

and by the way... EACH and every one of the PD's in this market bust their asses off...

Uhhhh.....

A few things:

The market was always susceptible to odd swings due to undersampling

WAAL was crushed like a bug in 1997

The Hawk was NOT#1 in the market 1997-2000

The "Heritage" argument is for people who do not have a reasonable plan of attack. The Hawk will always be the #1 country station, but not the overall #1 or #1 18-49. If you silently accept heritage stations, you miss the real fun of radio competition.

In my ancient days in radio, we brought down 2 heritage stations in Michigan, and 2 in Binghamton. We also gained in sales 75% in Binghamton. It came out of Citadel's hide.

Hope everyone in Binghamton is doing well. I think of you often.

Yea ageed ... and kick butt you did here...actually to the point of legendary. but you also had a B to do it with. It does make it somewhat easier..somewhat.. but you certainly programmed the hell out of it....
