Where's Ted?

I thought Ted Leitner's show on 1090 was moved to mid days but now I don't see him on the schedule. Is his show not on anymore?

> I thought Ted Leitner's show on 1090 was moved to mid days

He's on the radio right now, as it's tied 4-4 Rat-lanta. His daily show, for those keeping score at home and in Texas, returns after the baseball season.
______________

Gee, Pads tied? Go figure...

It looks like he's done after this season at least with the
Padres.

That's one of those unmentioned items. When Jerry Coleman goes, so does Friar Ted.

The season is going good for his Padres.

Is Jerry going to retire at the end of the season? I was not aware of this?
(I miss so much since I'm not there anymore...)

I guess Ted will be able to go back to TV (KUSI?) I heard him say something on the air a few weeks ago about how it became tough to keep both a TV and play-by-play job because doing play-by-play kept him away from the anchor desk too often, and news directors didn't like that.

Icon

Jerry is a loved icon in San Diego and baseball.

However, at 80, it's time to retire. He can barely see the playing field. It is time for him to hang a star on his career and enjoy retirement in Coronado.

Love ya Jerry, love the stories ... but a change is a coming.

When Jerry goes, so does Ted.

So I assume there's an off the record sorta thing going on.
But I still wonder if Ted will go back to TV once the Padres contract is over... Who could possibly replace these two? Tim Flannery and Tony Gwinn?

Re: What?

What gave it away was only a one year contract after all these years.
I would like to see the Padres bring back, in my opinion the best
announcer they had, Dave Campbell. Fearless, unsurpassed knowledge,
former Padre, and dry wit would be a great change.

G-dawg, Ted's career in Sandy Eggo on Tv is most likely over.
______________

Wow...
No B-Ball,
No TV...

No Ted?
He was arguably one of the most polarizing figures in San Diego broadcasting.
Any chance Ted will show up in another market, or is he done?

Didn't he get fired for saying something like "Can't have summer without the 3B's; Boos, Broads and Baseball" ?

There's always a chance at KUSI where all TV anchors go to die, but that's only if Ted will take the pay cut and he really wants the work.
______________

The way I see it, if he wants to stay in San Diego, he has the option to not work, other than his off season radio show. And I wonder if when he's off the Pads, he'll be off 1090 completely...

I agree that Ted may return to TV, as the irreverent sports anchor. While
no longer cutting edge, he is familiar, and a talented personality. Ted
is too slick, glib, and flippant to succeed Jerry Coleman as the lead
PBP voice. All those things that made him good with Jerry, sealed his
future fate with the Padres. As the sometimes Charger play by play voice,
he was medicore at best. At the Double XX he demonstrates his well tuned
interviewing skills, and observations, yet he lacks the passion needed
in targeting the core sports radio listener. I think KUSI would be
a great fit for Ted.

Even Ted's joked about his Ex's

Defame him? Where have you been man? It's not like he's never brought them up before or tries to hide them. This certainly isn't a revelation to anyone in San Diego, especially anyone that reads this forum. I think it's pretty relevent to why he worked so many venues at the same time over the years. I remember when Stacy and Ted worked at 760, Stacy once said that he liked Ted, but he thought there was too much Ted. Ted was all over the place for awhile; doing TV, Padres, Chargers, and radio talk shows. Either he had too much energy or he needed the money, I suspect he needed the money. Like I said, he deserves to be able to retire after his long and tireing career. Particularly the last decade worth.

"When Jerry goes, so does Ted." I will celebrate when he is 'retired' - I used to like him, but after meeting him after a Padre win in 1993 - his attitude just made me & my friends sick. He's not very nice, and folks in the business say he in all respects is mean and not 'honest' - this from one friend who interned at KFMB TV told me some years ago. I lost respect for him, and the sooner he goes, it's better for the radio. I like to see Tim Flannery stay once the chairs are moved. Peace - JG 8)
