Yes, that's right! I am home sitting a relative's house in Tucson and believe it or not, I'm streaming 101.5 JamZ! My goal was to not listen or even research 101.5 the whole time I was out of town so when I came back in August, it would all seem fresh, new, and exciting (you know how stations tend to change or tweak something whenever you leave town then you come back to discover something new..), but after about two weeks, I had to give in and start streaming! It was either that, or... listen to what's going on here in Tucson.
While the station(s) in Tucson aren't necessarily bad, they really don't compare to Phoenix AT ALL. KRQ is probably the best along with 92.9 The Mountain. Other than that, everything from the KEZ to KMXP to KKFR to even the KTAR & KFYI style sounds are better in Phoenix! However, when it comes to rhythmic oldies or alternative, I'm not sure if it's better in Phoenix or Tucson, though.
It's unfortunate that none of the local Tucson KRQ dj's (that I've heard) are as live and fun as KZON's dj's when it comes to mixshows, and not only KZON, but even KZZP is better with their mixshows. The four hours of mixes and Baka Boyz Allstar Hitmix on KZZP beats the hell out of all 8 hours of KRQ's Friday night mix. I do have to give credit to Tucson for not being late on songs though. Ever since I came here, Tyga "far away", Frank Ocean "novacane", Dj Felli Fel "boomerang", .... and more have been in regular rotation in Tucson. I believe that "you make me feel" by Cobra Starship was played on KRQ first (although KZZP was the first to use it in regular rotation LOCALLY and not through use of a syndicated show).
Anyway, enough with me stating the obvious with my random and somewhat pointless ramblings about Phoenix radio and how much more "paradisic" it is than Tucson radio. I'm sure the few who are interested in this Phoenix / Tucson comparison will reply. It's not like I'm talking about Los Angeles vs San Fransisco or something.
