Whether or not you're a believer, I've become a streamer!

Yes, that's right! I am home sitting a relative's house in Tucson and believe it or not, I'm streaming 101.5 JamZ! My goal was to not listen or even research 101.5 the whole time I was out of town so when I came back in August, it would all seem fresh, new, and exciting (you know how stations tend to change or tweak something whenever you leave town then you come back to discover something new..), but after about two weeks, I had to give in and start streaming! It was either that, or... listen to what's going on here in Tucson.

While the station(s) in Tucson aren't necessarily bad, they really don't compare to Phoenix AT ALL. KRQ is probably the best along with 92.9 The Mountain. Other than that, everything from the KEZ to KMXP to KKFR to even the KTAR & KFYI style sounds are better in Phoenix! However, when it comes to rhythmic oldies or alternative, I'm not sure if it's better in Phoenix or Tucson, though.

It's unfortunate that none of the local Tucson KRQ dj's (that I've heard) are as live and fun as KZON's dj's when it comes to mixshows, and not only KZON, but even KZZP is better with their mixshows. The four hours of mixes and Baka Boyz Allstar Hitmix on KZZP beats the hell out of all 8 hours of KRQ's Friday night mix. I do have to give credit to Tucson for not being late on songs though. Ever since I came here, Tyga "far away", Frank Ocean "novacane", Dj Felli Fel "boomerang", .... and more have been in regular rotation in Tucson. I believe that "you make me feel" by Cobra Starship was played on KRQ first (although KZZP was the first to use it in regular rotation LOCALLY and not through use of a syndicated show).

Anyway, enough with me stating the obvious with my random and somewhat pointless ramblings about Phoenix radio and how much more "paradisic" it is than Tucson radio. I'm sure the few who are interested in this Phoenix / Tucson comparison will reply. It's not like I'm talking about Los Angeles vs San Fransisco or something.

Well, I for one am interested... Arizona has its two biggest cities and their respective radio.
It could be interesting to several others...

There's one example where Tucson radio is better than Phoenix: I'd happily trade X103.9 for KFMA!

92.9 The Mountain is also a good format that phoenix doesn't exactly have. Due to the fact that I get burned out from listening to rhythmic and top 40 here because of very tight playlists and heavy repetition, I've been tuning in to 97.5 Bob FM and 92.9 The Mountain just to get away from hearing the same songs within 40-80 minutes. There seems to be a little bit of slacking on the chr programming out here as well.... which I will get into later since I don't feel like discussing it at this time.

There is also NO Handel on The Law out here! :(

However, I am enjoying my stay in Tucson.

OH... well I streamed KFYI, so it was all good. I did tune in to KNST for a little while during Coast to Coast, when out of no where, another completely different show randomly came on after the half hour news break before Coast to Coast resumed. I guess AM 790 here is programmed just as "poorly" as the chr's. Either that, or I just happen to always tune in when something odd or off is about to occur with the Tucson ClearChannel stations. One morning I woke up and thought there was a Power Outage, then realized that despite the dead silence, nope, that wasn't the case. KRQ, for some reason, just stopped playing music, so I had to switch to Bob FM because I was too tired to move the radio in the darkness to a place where it could get KOHT. As you can see, there was more behind creating this whole thread topic than you probably thought.... not just to brag about Phoenix..

Am I dreaming, or did I hear this really just happen on KOHT?

Man, between the amount of times they repeat songs and how much they love Michael Savage out here, I don't know which one is crazier!! By the way, I did discover the station that actually has Handel On The Law and at what time! If I had known it came on at the (random) time(s) it does, I would've listened since I was awake all night until 7am for the past few days and since I also don't tune in to Coast To Coast on the weekends! You would think that one of the two Tucson talk stations playing Michael Savage's show would be the one to have Handel On The Law!

And I love how both the pop leaning rhythmic and the rhythmic leaning chr are both owned by the same company!
Tuscon is fascinating.....

A Michael Savage and Party Rock Anthem town, indeed.

My guess..they went from Premium Choice music logs to local logs.

Well that (probably) explains things... depending on how many different styles of premium choice logs they are. WWVA WiLD 105.7/96.7 plays way more songs overnights during their premium choice, so I'm assuming there must be more than one style of premium choice playlist since KOHT probably wouldn't (or shouldn't) be playing some of the stuff that comes on WWVA WiLD 105.7/96.7 overnights.

Anyway, it was nice waking up to the middle of "Party Rock Anthem" on KRQ today!!

Please...for the love of God... ;D

Market # 60 shouldn't be compared to Market # 15...

...it's just so wrong in sooooooo many ways.

If you're really looking for some quality radio, switch over to the AM band! :p

You poor soul, get out of tucson! i hate that place!

Well just got back to Tucson from LA today, and I knew it when less than a minute after tuning in to Hot 98.3, a commercial was playing at the exact same time that the morning show was doing a war of the roses call (a call where they catch someone's significant other cheating..).

Anyway, what I really came to say is that I really should not make fun of Tucson's chr radio because the only real difference between Tucson and LA is that LA just has a bunch more chr stations that play just about the EXACT SAME THINGS! WOW! It's just that in Tucson, they've managed to deliver the same content with just two signals as oppose to a bunch of them.

I do find it rather funny that I'd come from Phoenix to Tucson then "look down upon" the Tucson chr stations, but then I go to LA and come back only to say "Tucson radio isn't really all that bad after all"! I guess it's not really that LA is bad, but I just expected more from LA - the SECOND largest market! I mean, I have to say that I did not learn much more in LA that I didn't already know from listening to chr radio in Tucson. You'd think that I'd go to LA and discover a bunch of new hits! Ha! Nope. Either Tucson is fast or LA has become slow on new music. Quite honestly, I can't even tell through chr & rhythmic radio that I've changed locations...

I do find it odd that what you hear on chr / rhythmic radio stations in Tucson is more similar to LA than what is going on in Phoenix (And Phoenix has more chr's!)

Even stranger than the random 2 hour reggaeton show, Sunday morning at 2am on Hot 98.3 KOHT Tucson - is the edit of "get low" that just played on KRQ! Heck, with all the words they edited out of the chorus, they might as well had just played the instrumental! Good grief! Oh, and:
