Which AC Billy Goat Will Donn The Red Sweater First?

It is notable to say, though, that not a TON of people have satellite radio, and most sure as heck aren't going to switch to it just for Christmas music 24/7.

I guess we can say one thing, Delilah fits on an all Christmas station. The sad thing is, there is nowhere for listeners of Magic 98.9 and MY 102.5 that don't want Christmas music to go. I like Clear Channel's iHeartRadio....guess I'll have to find something on there.

I agree with you there about satellite radio. I think Scooter was mostly likely referring to commercial businesses being able to pump in satellite and write it off.

But I think MY has to know that Magic will most definately go all-Christmas. Does it really think that all-Christmas would beat their mostly hot AC format over that period? I would certainly hope not. Maybe if they broke the ratings book up into daily pictures you might see a spike the week before and after Christmas. But I think MY could easily kill Magic in the ratings if they keep up their current format over the holidays.

That said, it probably is cheaper for them to go all-Christmas and still get the advertisers. So who knows. I know what I'd prefer.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but MY is keeping all-Christmas a little more hush compared to Magic. I don't listen to Magic a ton, but they are stressing almost every chance they get that they're going all Christmas any day now. It's on the air all the time and on their social media pages. I think they even have a contest going on about when they flip the switch.

All-Christmas did not give MY a boost last year. They lost to Magic, who didn't do great with it. It has normally done well for MY with them leading over Magic during the holidays. Whether it works this year is yet to be seen, since they've changed things up. If all-Christmas is going to go anywhere, it just seems like it belongs on Magic, IMO. After all, they are "the" AC station, which is where it fits best.

I've often wondered, in markets with 2 AC's, the ratings would look if one station went all-Christmas and one didn't.

It seems like MY isn being more hush on going all-Christmas as far as over the airwaves, but I've heard them mention all-Christmas quite a bit lately....directing listeners to their website to stream it. Still hope that's their plans, keep it streaming on the web and leave the station itself alone.

Yeah, I haven't heard anything directly saying that MY is going all-Christmas, while Magic mentions it all of the time. MY mentions the online stream quite a bit. Magic is going to send their listeners a text message or something in advance before they do. They are itching to flip the switch...$100 says they do by the weekend!

I remember reading an interesting theory about MY and going all-Christmas on another thread - that it might help clean out the rest of the old audience from when they were AC and allow them to make room for more adjustments after the holidays (ditching Delilah?). That was back when it seemed like they were deliberately playing those slow, older songs to hold on to the older audience, though, so it may not matter anymore. Delilah playing Christmas music....pass a barf bag.
