Its a market of about 500,000.
Ratings are...
1. More FM - hot ac (8200)
2. The Rock - Rock (Omnia.FM)
3. The Edge - top 40 (Omnia.FM)
4. The Breeze - easy (Unity 2000i)
Gold and talk come a bit further down, but I think The Breeze and The Edge are most in need of the new boxes.
I know RadioWorks just purchased 10 new 8500s and about 20 new 8300s to replace the ageing fleet of Omnia stock. Although in Auckland it interests me to note they're replacing Omnia 6's with the 8500s.
In NZ there are two main players and very little privately owned radio. RadioWorks (Canwest) and The Radio Network (Clear Channel). TRN use only Optimods, and we we're predominatly Omnia, so with this move there will be very little Omnia stock in the country which is sad.
In an ideal world. I'd like an O6 on The Breeze and More FM, and 8500s for Rock and Edge and Gold, my reason behind this is I like the sound of Optimod when pushed hard and on talk stations, but I think the Omnias do a better job of making music sound open.
Thats my take anyway
