Any idea what they plan to change, if anything? IIRC they covered about 5 decades....? How rare/common is that?

As if there wasn't enough of *that* in the Nashville market already. In fact, one of those conservative talkers has a nice signal at 99.7 on the FM band and is owned by Cumulus. And that makes me suspect that WHIN's new owners will not make much headway, at least ratingswise, with that kind of format.
With WLAC and WWTN being the biggest players doing conservative talk in the market, what's left? There's day-only WENO which has its own brand of conservative talk. There's a handful of smaller stations that do conservative talk shows along with their other programming.
There are shows from 8 years ago still available you can listen to that the guy created when he was on other stations. I never listened to Art Bell much, but it seems that's what he's going toward. The last two episodes I heard was dealing with flat earth, among other things. Certainly a bit of Christianity in there, too.

From what I can tell, WHIN's signal doesn't penetrate Nashville very well anyway (it has to protect the 1030 kHz station licensed to White Bluff), meaning that if the new owner were smart, he would concentrate on serving only Gallatin and the surrounding areas in Nashville's northern suburbs. Since the only other station licensed to the town (it's at 1130 kHz) is running a noncommercial Spanish Christian format, the new owner might try what @K.M. Richards is doing with the station near Albuquerque he's programming: namely, contacting local businesses in the Gallatin area and see what kind of programming they are willing to purchase advertising time for. But all indications are that the new owner isn't that smart.
I'm not sure one can judge his intelligence. Just that he appears to have an agenda, and aims to use the radio station to forward it.
Ratings don't appear to be the motivation. Current listeners are in for a shock.
The station was owned by Kensington Media, which also owns Hippy Radio.

I have to mildly correct you there, Ted.
The Eighties Channel™ had a 14-month test run in 2014-15 on a AM/translator combo which had to be divested during a divorce settlement. When the owner put a new AM on the air and acquired a silent translator for it in 2022, he asked me to put the format -- which I had refined further in the intervening years -- back on the air in Albuquerque. It was his own gut feeling that the market would respond to an 80's-focused Classic Hits format, since iHeart had spun off their similarly formatted station a little over a year earlier. There was no research done beforehand.
I think where it gets confusing -- how you came to that erroneous conclusion -- is that I have, on several occasions, posted that Don has found KRKE to be an easy sell to the local businesses. He has often gone in on a cold call, only to find that we are the owner's favorite station ... and the mindset then becomes "if I like this station, other people who like it would be good customers for my business".
That's why we have a lot of local advertiser business. That's why we have some clients who are on the air with us throughout the year. And that's why KRKE, when broken out from the rest of the Radio New Mexico "network", is solidly in the black after less than four years.
Don calls 93.7 the "crown jewel" in the station group, and I am justifiably proud to be programming it.
1010 is a Canadian Clear channenel which makes any kind of night service that would cover Nashville questionable. They were paying their staff pretty good* when 80 90 started and I believe if there was any way to cover Nashville at night they had the funds to do it. They bought 104.5 and did quite well with that deal. 1030 goes directional mainly west away from Nashville. I wonder why anyone would build a directional pattern AWAY from Nashville unless Dickson and west Nashville have a lot of income
I don't know if Gallatin has been "big boxed" enough to seriously affect WHINs customers but the local businesses in Gallatin have supported WHIN for over 50 years. Of course there is the hook line in an old country song: "There ain't no future in the past."
* They paid their part timers at least $2 an hour more than what I was getting at WDBL and WDBL was making money on the early 1970's.
First place I ever heard of WENO (We Know), was when either them or one of their DJs won a Singing News Fan Award, some years ago. If memory serves as well, the NQC (National Quartet Convention) was held in Nashville that year or in those days and an old friend and radio mentor went there, heard it and brought back a full-page report, so to speak. I believe when I heard them some years later from the previous mention, which is still a few years ago, they were affiliated with TNU (Trevecca Nazarene University).
The call letters WENO have a history in Nashville. In the mid 1960's they were on 1430. They were Nashville's daytime country station. WSM was MOR and later Chicken Rockn in the mid 1970's. Then 650 was county at night.
WENO radio had Western style small theme park called "The WENO Radio Ranch" complete with actors doing gun fights. If you were an artist on a major label at that time you would "stop in" to visit with Ralph Emory on his over night show on 650, then stick around and play a song or 2 on the early channel 4 (WSM TV) early morning show. Then you would visit the WENO Ranch after breakfast.

I explained this in another thread recently, so it's fresh in my mind.
"Chicken rock" was largely a derogatory term and was used originally by "good music" middle-of-the-road stations to describe cover vocals of pop songs by such groups as the Ray Conniff Singers.
Later, when those same stations started to become dependent on those cover versions themselves, they used the term to describe MOR stations that had transitioned to Adult Contemporary (because the early A/C stations were largely top-40 without the hard rock plus some of the big original non-cover MOR hits).
In both cases, the stations mainly used the term to lower the credibility of their more contemporary competitors during ad sales pitches.
