WHIZ?

All the WHIZ talk kind-of died down in a hurry awhile back. Just wondering if they changed their location in their legal ID's? Didn't the FCC document that was posted say something about them changing to "Baltimore/Columbus" in January of 2006? Just curious if there is anything new going on in Zanesville.

Actually just looked at their information on the FCC's website, there is nothing indicating an application for a move from Zanesville to Baltimore.

Haven't heard anything out of the ordinary. However, both of the WHIZ stations have new morning hosts as of this week; Allen Tangey (former WHIZ-AM host) on Z102 and Michael James on the AM side.

The November 10 proceeding required the WHIZ folks to submit an application for the new Baltimore station within 90 days. That would be by February 10.

It will then take at least 9 months to a year for the FCC to sit on, err, process the application and grant a construction permit.

Depending upon whether or not an existing tower will be used, and when the CP is issued, it may take up to another year after that to build the facility.

If they are going to build a tower, it may take them more than 90 days to file an app. since they need FAA clearance, as well as clearance from this stupid "National Programatic Agreement" where you have to run the proposed tower past the Indian tribes (despite the fact that no Indian tribe has a claim to any Ohio lands) as well as all the hysterical societies, etc. etc.

Not to mention the State of Ohio, although their equivalent of the FAA only has authority in the vicinity of non-FAA airports. I have always ignored those clowns.

Actually there is something on the FCC site regarding this but you won't find it listed under WHIZ's call letters. A rulemaking application (docket 04-161) has been filed to delete the Class B facility at Zanesville on 102.5 and to add a Class B-1 facility on the same frequency at Baltimore. Search under "Ohio" and under 102.5 and you'll find this. If and when the channel is re-allocated to Baltimore, then WHIZ would file an application to change City of License, as well as their facilities. This is the case regarding moving 101.7 from Dover to North Canton, 106.5 to Dublin, and a proposed deal to Move 101.5 from Toledo to Oak Harbor and then 97.3 from Oak Harbor to Genoa, among others.

The rulemaking is pending, so the answer at this time is NOBODY knows.

They do have the permission for the allotment and if i read it correctly the change took effect in Dec 27 2005 They now need to file the application with the FCC for a construction permit. They have 90 days from the fcc order changing the table of allotments to submit the application. the order is dated November 10 2005
