Who Actually Listening to Streaming Audio?

I listen to XFM in the UK.

Pandora and lastfm both start repeating songs after a while, which gets on my nerves. I've maybe found one new band through either of them, and that's it (which is part of what they're supposed to do).

When I'm out of Pittsburgh I often listen to the Pittsburgh sports talk shows and maybe a game if it's on the 'net and I don't have to pay a fee. I am one of these cheapskates who would sooner listen to Bucs-Reds on WLW at night than pay to listen to the game.

Otherwise, some favorites to listen to include-

All sorts of games, especially played by out-of-town college teams I wish to follow. That's how Mark Cuban made his money, right?

I love the "Open Letter From Galvin" segment on theboneonline.com

I used to search all sorts of stations to hear Lowell Ponte when he did a weekend talk show. I remember picking him up at 6 a.m. on a Sunday or something to listen to him online.

Imus. WABC AM 770.

There are various other sports talk shows I like that I will listen to online. One on horse racing comes to mind.

And I haven't listened online to her in several years, but when I did, Monica Crowley became my dream girl. ;D ::) ;)

Try Slacker. Their programmed stations are pretty good -- and are customizable, so you can skip or ban songs and artists. I've discovered a bunch of bands from them, and I find their stations are way better than what Pandora's algorithms can do.

As a kid, I listened to a lot of shortwave b'cast. Online is better. I have Internet radios at various spots around my house. Favorites include jazz (WBGO out of Newark is the best personality-oriented jazz station in the US with lots of live programs from NYC clubs, although the Spirit of KJAZ out of SF is pretty good for a low budget, automated system...UK Jazz Radio has some of the best alternative, British / European jazz programing and interesting, non-traditional hosts...WWOZ from New Orleans is great...kind of a stew of jazz, blues and alligator), classical (check out Venice Classic Radio...they program heavily with works from 18th Century composers...they're bright, upbeat and very crisp). And if your're into public radio, be sure to check out publicradiofan.com
