Well, if you saw any of the local TV newscasts, they all took the bait too. Though I don't know if they were bribed with free cake... TV absolutely loves "visual" events like this. They can't resist the B-Roll of the big sign saying "0.00/gallon" or the line of cars clogging up the roads.
I haven't seen any spots for said bank on local TV, so it looks like free publicity all the way around. Of course, radio stations are often the instigators... different stations all over the country will occasionally do free gas giveaways because they know they'll get TV coverage. Shame on whichever radio stations fell for their own gag by giving the bank and gas station free plugs. If these jocks had kept their mouths shut, maybe the bank would have coughed up the cash for some spots... and some talent fees for a remote. Besides, isn't that plugola?
