The university wants itself referred to as "The Ohio State University." Have been for a few years now. I guess to sound more prestigious or something.

I think it has something to do with Ohio University suing Ohio State a few years ago to trademark the word "Ohio". I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it.

If it does, a Google search on "Ohio University suing Ohio State" shows no signs of it. Of course, more recent suits against tOSU, such as ESPN's records suits over the Tressel controversy, overwhelm the top of the search results.

If you believe the Wikipedia article on OSU, "The Ohio State University" has been tOSU's official name for decades, though I'm pretty sure emphasis on "The" is fairly recent.

But the lawsuit was over the use of the sole word "Ohio", and I don't see any direct connection over use of "The" in "The Ohio State University".

One person quoted is said to provide the suit as "a hypothesis", nothing more.

But I DO remember, now, the "Battle over Ohio".
 
One of the reasons the WOSU-AM sale took so long is because it had to be approved by tOSU board of trustees before being final. They meet maybe a few times a year at the most?

The FCC approved the sale of WOSU-AM from tOSU to St Gabriel Catholic Radio on November,
2nd, 2011. This approval by the FCC took a little less then 45 days. With this swift approval,
I expect to see St. Gabriel to take over the frequency before Christmas. It used to be a wait
of about 90 days was to be expected for approval of radio sales agreements by the FCC.

I did notice WOSU-AM stopped broadcasting in IBOC earlier in the week, in anticipation of the sale.

why would WOSU-A stop broadcasting in IBOC... It's not like tOSU is gonna remove the IBOC Equipment once they hand the keys over to St Gabriel.

Stations have to pay recurring licensing fees to Ibiquity to keep using IBOC. I would imagine St. Gabriel sees it for what it is, a waste of money and electricity.
 
They would actually have an intown signal on that frequency but I doubt listeners would be willing to move over to the AM dial for it. Plus it's nightime signal is awful like the rest of the Columbus am signals.
