Who has the strongest local signals?

So,just who has the most RF voltage going to your radio? The higher elevation Mt Soledad, or the lower, slightly
higher power south S.D. sites @101.5/93.3 and 97.3/106.5? My Kearney location is equidistant to Soledad and
the KGB. The HP Spectrum Analyzer is fed with a 1/4 wave vertical, 29 in. at 98mhz.,span is 88-108mhz.
Highest to lowest; #1. 101.5/93.3-tie #5. 99.7-T.J. #9. 91.7 T.J.
#2. 97.3 #6. 89.5
#3. 94.1 #7. 102.9
#4. 96.5 #8. 104.5(T.J.),105.3-tie
Apparently, the Soledads' higher antennas are beaming towards a further horizon, and the max power field is further away than 7.5 miles. And, of course, a change of test location will have different results. Anomolies=106.5
was below 97.3 and all of Soledad stns. 104.9/105.7, equal power neighbors,104.9 was a lot weaker. 91.7, a hair stronger than 91X. 2kw 89.5 was a surprise.
FCC regs. had mandated a change in the downward RFR, and as a result, the closer, downward field strength
has been greatly reduced; the lower antennas of 101.5/93.3 offer higher millivolts, locally.

When I lived in University City and later Mission Bay (near the water) between 1990-1995, I could not get any stations located in Mt. Miguel. All the stations from Soledad would power over them and bleed through all the channels. Then when lived in La Mesa, I could get all the stations, but the ones from Soledad were weaker, and harder to tune cleanly.

I always thought that 90.3 XHITZ, 91.1 XETRA-FM, 92.5 XHRM and 104.5 XHLTN all were superior to San Diego signals. That was due to San Diego being a Class B territory, with no station being allowed more than the equivilent of 50,000 watts at 500 feet. Meanwhile, the first three Mexican stations operate with 100,000 watts. And XHLTN puts out 57,000 watts, although I think a few years ago when it was the top-rated Tijuana FM station, it was running 100,000 watts as well.

In addition, 97.7 XHTY, while putting out a decent 30,000 watts, also has a tall tower at 1100 feet. That's far more wattage than would be permitted by a station in San Diego with an 1100 foot tower. For instance, KFMB-FM also puts out 30,000 watts but on a 620 foot tower. (So that's about the same as the FCC So. Cal. standard of 50,000 watts at 500 feet.)

And I always thought 89.5 KPBS-FM, 93.3 KHTS and 94.9 KBZT all were on the same tower and should have the same reception. They all put out apx. 2000 watts but on a very tall 1800 foot stick, so I'm guess they're all co-located.

In my last paragraph above, I should include 102.9 KLNV, also running 2000 watts from a tower just above 1800 feet.

And I should also mentioned one San Diego station that's grandfathered at higher than standard power: 94.1 KMYI, which puts out 100,000 watts on a 530 foot tower. If it operated under today's FCC standards from a 530 foot tower, it would have to be limited to around 45,000 watts. It's the market's only 100 kw station not located in Mexico.

KLNV is on 106.5. 102.9 is KLQV and is 30,000 watts at a HAAT of 643 feet.

Did you forget about 102.1 KPRi ?

I make the case for KLVJ in Julian at 100.3. 110 watts of power that from 5,797 feet covers mountain to ocean.

Bring your yagi and amp.

I wonder how many non-radio folks get that!

Somebody apparently looking to sell scrap aluminum climbed up on my roof last week and stole all the elements from my antenna, leaving the yagi bare.

I tried to put a yagi on my roof to pick up some San Diego/Tijuana stations last week, but I made a boo-boo.

Speaking of the SD area local signal. How are these signal in the San Diego area? (North County, Downtown, La Jolla-Mission Bay, El Cajon)
XHTIT 88.7 FM
XHA 94.5 FM
KSIQ 96.1 FM
XHTIM 97.7 FM
XHMORE 98.9 FM
XHUAN 102.5 FM
XHURST 107.7 FM

How about
XESS 620 AM
XESPN 800 AM
XESDD 1030 AM
