Who is already missing sports on TV?

I watched German Soccer yesterday and today on FS1 along with some charity golf and some NASCAR as well. Next week more charity golf with Tiger VS Phil along with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Canada has just announced that it will extend its border closing until June 21. That's bad news for American sports, especially hockey:

https://sports.yahoo.com/nhl-hopes-extended-u-canada-201756252.html

Joe Benigno was talking about this with a hockey writer on WFAN New York today. The writer said he had been 100 percent sure hockey would return, now is only 70 percent sure. All team sports will really have to jump through some very challenging hoops to get back on the field, ice or court this year -- even pro and college football, which don't have any border concerns.

And this is something nobody in this country controls. The president and his allies can stomp their feet and hold their breath, but Canada is a different country. They were hoping to do a few weeks of training, then finish the season, then have playoffs start at the end of July. That's tough now.

Making it even worse is the fact that the music industry has been announcing that almost all of its major 2020 tours have either been canceled or postponed until 2021. It's no coincidence that most of those tours use sports arenas and stadiums. Those venues were getting crowded as more and more sports events get pushed to the fall. Plus, there's the issue of ticket refunds, which can't happen unless a show has been canceled.

Suppose the players live in Canada?

Do the Jays have any such players, outside of any Canadians who may be on the roster? I though most players of other nationalities who played for Canadian-based teams lived out of hotels in their "work city" while maintaining permanent residence back home.

Don't know...just that it's obviously a big issue for hockey. The NHL has said it can't resume play until the border opens.

Here's what the PM says:

It's funny to read quotes from other world leaders talking about restrictions, and meanwhile we have no guidance at all here.

That's because our Constitution gives so many powers to the states that are reserved for the central government in other countries. I know why the framers did that, and it's often an admirable difference between the US and the rest of the world, but there are times it hinders national unity on issues on which national unity should be a paramount concern.

Now there are talks that the NBA will start in July if this is true.

“I think we’ll have something, hopefully within the next 6 to 8 weeks, we should be playing,” said Lasry, who appeared on CNBC’s “Halftime Report” on Friday.

Collaborating with Disney is beneficial for both parties, as ESPN would capitalize on potential content opportunities. Disney, along with Turner Sports, pays the NBA roughly $2.6 billion per year for national media rights.

Before resuming, the NBA would need a large quantity of Covid-19 testing kits for daily use. The league said it would work with health officials on a “comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that appropriate medical protocols and protections are in place.”

I record whatever is on Fox from 7 to 8 on Sundays, just in case, since there was once a tendency to show programs I wasn't expecting during that time.

Since the NASCAR race was in Charlotte (actually Concord, as the announcer admitted once, amazed at how long the camera was) I decided to watch.

It was mostly a rain delay during that time and lots of drivers were interviewed. Everyone outside had on a mask. The reporter held one microphone and someone holding a long pole held the one used by the driver.

Now here's a wild theory. Someone on another site I go to said if stadiums can't have fans by the time the next Super Bowl is played, those who watch will be charged to make up for the lost profits.

That would never happen, though. Think of the advertisers who would lose.

That's part of it. The NFL is getting paid by TV for the rights to the game. The price was set before this situation. The NFL can't change the deal now.

The lost revenue from fans is not TV's problem.
