Who is already missing sports on TV?

Hanshin Tigers vs. Orix Buffaloes live now. NPB spring training continues with empty ballparks even though the regular season start has been pushed back indefinitely. Strange.

I wonder if the MLB Network or even ESPN might be interested in a deal with NPB for games if their season starts before MLB's does. Of course, the play-by-play would have to be done from New York over a clean feed, because games for domestic consumption are announced only in Japanese.

Anyone looking at this post now should ignore the URL, which apparently was good only for the live feed of the Japanese baseball game last night. For me, it now links to a song by Jonathan Edwards -- kind of a forgotten artist of the '70s and a nice song, but not a cure for baseball hunger.

Doubt that statement the UFC is saying until one of their fighters face a positive test. Note California and Nevada has confirmed that fights will be suspended until March 25 in Nevada and March 31st in California due to State of Emergencies in place for COVID-19.

The UFC will always be able to find an Indian Casino to host fights without needing cooperation from state athletic commissions.

Wow! PBA world championship bowling appears to be live today! Of course it really wouldn't matter since I have no idea who these people are.

I remember when bowlers were household names and millions watched them compete on ABC every weekend with Chris Schenkel on play-by-play. The last time I watched any bowling, it was about 20 years ago on ESPN and the big name was Pete Weber Jr., whose father I'd watched many times a couple of decades earlier. I go back to the Earl Anthony, Mark Roth, Johnny Petraglia days, although I remember watching a filmed bowling show from Akron, Ohio, in syndication as a kid, with names like Ray Bluth being the stars.

The last name I remember was Parker Bohn 3rd. He's still active, but was not in today's championship.

That's a familiar name to me, too. We must have quit watching around the same time. And I misremembered the Weber family tree in my previous post. Dick Weber was Pete's dad, so Pete wasn't a Junior.

I watched repeats of the college basketball on CBS and NFL Network as well since FA signings are about to happen on Wed happy 10 more years of labor peace. And I don't mind watching classic sports games.

National emergency doesn't apply to the tribal lands/properties?

I don’t think they do, although they would be smart to comply.

Apparently the UFC’s problem is with state boxing commissions providing officials and judges to the empty arena events. Indian Reservations have their own regulators, so state cooperation is not needed.
It should come down to whether the UFC can get insurance or is willing to self insure for events. If they have the only live sports on tv, it may be worth it. No one will know unless or until someone gets sick

That's a complicated thing. One of the reasons these tribes were able to start gambling casinos on their reservations regardless of state or federal law has to do with "tribal sovereignty."

If you have time, read this:

If you're from Connecticut, you probably know a lot about the one in your state. It's an interesting story.

Arizona's Native American casinos, including the ones in the Phoenix area, are not being shut down. The Governor does not have the authority to order them closed AFAIK, and the tribes are taking steps to keep things as sanitary as possible. These casinos are usually pretty crowded, with mostly seniors. Might be a test case to see how the Coronavirus is spreading, both among the Native Americans and the folks who go to the casinos. So far, we haven't been as affected as many other states.

WWE and AEW have their own buildings to tape their shows but other companies such as Impact Wrestling and ROH will be closed for the foreseeable future.

MLB has extended the delay for opening day

UPDATED with extended delay: Major League Baseball’s delay of opening day could last another two months after commissioner Rob Manfred said Monday the league will follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s coronavirus guidance issued Sunday to restrict events of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks.

MLB had already announced a two-week delay to the regular-season start on Thursday, when it also canceled the remainder of spring training. This new timeline will push the season openers into May at the earliest; originally, the first games were scheduled for March 26.

“The Clubs remain committed to playing as many games as possible when the season begins,” MLB said in its statement Monday after a meeting with all 30 teams.
