Who is already missing sports on TV?

The Initial plan was to have the UFC on Tribal land but California officials said that UFC leadership would end up jamming the hospitals in the state if anyone at the venue is confirmed to be tested positive for COVID-19.

Before UFC 249 was called off, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released a statement Thursday saying she was "concerned" about the event taking place at the casino.

"This event would involve dozens of individuals flying to California and driving to a casino for a purpose no one can honestly claim is essential," Feinstein said in her statement. "I understand this event is scheduled to take place on tribal land and therefore is not subject to state law. However, at best this event ties up medical resources and sends a message that shelter-in-place orders can be flouted.

"At worst, participants and support staff could carry the virus back to their home communities and increase its spread."

Dana was stupid to even attempt it. Things are shut down for a reason.

This thread is about sports.

wrestling counts, even if it's predetermined and dubbed "Sports Entertainment" the wrestlers get hurt doing everything that they do in the wrestling ring.

i think AEW should just postponed the event until restrictions are lifted and have the "Blood and Guts" match (their version of the War Games match that WCW/NWA made famous in the 1980s and 90s) as the event's main event, i wouldn't be surprise if AEW goes straight to hiatus when they run of TV tapings material to air.

meanwhile, there's rumors that Impact Wrestling is looking to film content in Nashville in a studio with no crowd to get the shows to continue and they have to move their "Rebellion" PPV scheduled for April 15th in New York City to a free on AXS TV special taped at the studio in Nashville. also WWE resumed taping at the Performance Center in Orlando with special permission to film there for WWE TV. also, the "Money In The Bank" for May 10 is no longer gonna be held in Baltimore at the Royal Farms Arena and will most likely be taped at a earlier date at the Performance Center but will most likely still air on that date as scheduled.

Nashville is the hot place in TN for COVID-19 so I don't know how safe that is.

I had been going through some sports withdrawal. I follow MLS and some other soccer stuff. And I like gymnastics, and current events throughout the sports world. I guess the current events are still happening. Sports figures taking ill and passing away, sadly, and also the front office news. I find front office interesting, especially with soccer, because we are still a "Big Four" country even though MLS has made some inroads.

ETA: But, the lack of TV sports has forced me into some enriching other things, like reading (always a struggle growing up) and general news awareness.

2020 NFL Draft has 15.6M viewers

The NFL Draft, one of the few sports events on television since the coronavirus pandemic shut down live games, drew a record 15.6 million viewers on its first night, up 37% from last year’s telecast.

The draft, held virtually from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s house, with video connections to the drafted players and commentators, was televised by ABC, ESPN, NFL Network and shown online.

Coverage peaked from 8:45 to 9 p.m. with 19.6 million viewers.

Discussions now about holding the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs in July & August:

The idea has support from the NHL's TV partner, NBC, who is looking for content at that time to replace the Olympics.

They're looking at using arenas in 4 cities, depending on local health situations. But the biggest stumbling block is opening the border with Canada.

The NHL is also considering doing its draft before the playoffs.

Horse racing is still happening. I read that yesterday.

However, the big one can't happen this Saturday.

It's already been pushed back to September. Maryland is currently closed, so it doesn't seem likely that the Preakness will be run two weeks later, either. No word from New York Racing Association, but I'm seeing on racing-related boards that they're looking at May 22 for reopening Belmont Park, so that would make the longest race in the Triple Crown the first to be run, which is weird. Of course, Belmont also has fall racing dates (Sept.-Oct., after Saratoga's summer season) so maybe the whole series gets pushed back to the fall.
