Who is in charge at Citadel?

The question was "Who is in charge at Citadel?" Lets see....Larry, Moe or Curly perhaps? No, any of those guys would be smarter!

Add Shemp to the mix as Moe's personal assistant and you will have the perfect executive management team.

Flipped by 100.3 today and heard a Bill Clinton speech and it being called "Bill Clinton Radio". Then the open to WKRP, more bits including "Facebook Radio" and "Vuvezela Radio" and though Team Pirkle/Brantley may have started running their own stunt loop. But it was still Citadel with "News Talk has moved. Tune your radio to 98.7".

Flipped by 100.3 today and heard it OFF THE AIR! Surprisingly I picked up a fairly decent signal of 100.3 The Beaver from Clarksville. Since WNOX has such a huge signal footprint, I figured that frequency would be completely open, but I guess not. Also heard someone playing classic rock on 100.1 and country on 100.5 but not as strong.

I left East Tennessee in the last 80's after having grown up there, so I am not real knowledgeable with the current Citadel/Johnny Pirkle/98.7/100.3 situation. But I remember a day when Radio and Television in Knoxville was really fun to experience. WOKI FM 100 with Mike Beverly, Lynn Wright and Brother John with Boogie Check. Then we had WIMZ with Phil Williams and Colvin Idol as the Waking Crew, plus there was Kerry Lambert and the rest of the gang throughout the day. And of course, who could forget the legends from WIVK's glory days. That was just the tip of the iceberg. No matter what your tastes were, there was something for everyone. Knoxville's radio dial was once truly special...full of talent up and down the dial (both AM and FM) that gave us local entertainment at it's best. Too bad it's turned into something close to the soundtrack for the Jerry Springer Show.

Y'know, come to think of it, it's not unlike one of those crappy reality shows on cable.

Maybe we can all help figure it out... Thanks for the cool idea chase286!

Cowboy submits that maybe it's a cross between the Tiger Woods debacle and Fatal Attraction: Tiger (Citadel) hooks up with ABC (Glen Close). Citadel gives ABC the most disappointing fifteen seconds of its life, then the wife and children are terrorized by the whole thing. The wife (Ed) goes to live with the landlord (Johnny) who's looking forward to a life of ease thanks to Ed being able to support Johnny in the style to which he's become accustomed.

Meanwhile the children (played by HHH, Phil, and the grown son Rush) are shipped off to live at the crazy Aunt's farm in Oliver Springs. Rush is an adult, so he can do whatever he wants, so long as he can keep his obligation to his brothers and sisters formerly in Knoxville.

All the people still employed in the house on Old Kingston Pike make the speedy transition from paid house employees to slaves working at the whim of a gun-wielding, panicky Glen Close.

Throw in a couple of car chases and a few jokes from Bill Murray and you have yourself some real high brow entertainment there.

I am really digging the new AAA/Country hybrid they're going with between the liners. It might even beat 98.7 in the trends!

Oh, and has anyone else heard the "radio info" liner? I guess porky and his merry band of followers are finally admitting defeat.

I listened on and off all day today. A couple of things came to mind as I listened. First, their production people are very uncreative and obviously bored. Their boredom is a clear indication that sales on the "new 98.7" are down. Second thing that comes to mind is the music they're playing sounds like and iPod playlist of a angst ridden early 20s cat lady.

Also it sounds like the audio has been distorted and over modulated on purpose. The Bill Clinton speech is a prime example. Does anybody think or have a concern that this might backfire and damage WIVK reputation? Is there a downside?

I think that there is a better than good chance their stunt(s) will harm the reputation of WIVK. And I think everyone knows that WIVK is where the paychecks come from.

Nope, they're giving it to me and reaping a HUGE tax break. And from what they're saying on air, turning loose of 100.3 was the most awesomest thing ever and a signal is like a boobie: More than a hand full is a waste. They want to keep all of the employees and the country format and move them to 99.1 and 99.3.

I'm going to hire this guy and build a station around him: http://politics.freesitenow.com/basilmarceauxforgovernor/ We don't need a third NewsTalk station, so any ideas of what to best call this format would be appreciated.

Why would it damage WIVK. Outside of this board and some other folks who follow media, no one cares who owns who or who has a score to settle.

Because sooner or later crappy morale has an effect on the sound of the station.

"WIVK UNDO IT! And that was Carrie Underwood...."

"107.7 WIVK I DON"T NEED YOU! You just heard Kenny Rodgers..."

The world is larger than that.

Agreed. Too much ukulele. And what about Charlene "Never Been To Me"? I was just about convinced it was someone's 15 year old daughter's mix CD until I heard that.

Read the 2-month agreement between WNOX and Citadel and see Citadel agreed to NOT do anything to do "damage" the value of WNOX. A jury hearing the loop of distorted, moronic audio would unanimously agree that the intent was to damage.

Therefore, anyone who knows the owner of WNOX, must expect a legal action against Citadel (and, probably, the employees who are actually mixing, distorting and scheduling the "loop.")

If gr8oldies does not see the prolems Citadel is creating for WIVK's image, I urge him to hang around the market and read the testimony in the paper.

Then we shall see the final chapter in this exciting saga...the chapter when the image of Citadel, already stained in the business and advertising communities, is bared for the general public. Now, if one of the wanna-be country stations in town fixed their programing and shaved 6-8 points off the Frog, B97 and WNOX would be #1 and #2 in 6 months.

Citadel is going out of their way in my opinion to damage the brand of WNOX. Come Monday morning when Citadel is no longer running the show at 100.3 they will find out what damage WNOX can do with 100,000 watts while their little 8000 watt is just a wimper and not a loud one at that.
