Who is in charge at Citadel?

What about 99.1? In my opinion, they have gone down hill. Dearstone is the Manager of that particular station, and he and his show is terrible. Jim Rome was popular in Knoxville, but he was replaced with a couple of local clowns(West and Ward). And who actually listens to the Tennessee Smokies? Seriously, who listens to them? I mean, I don't want the NFL draft coverage or an interesting interview to be interrupted by minor league baseball.

Also, the station would do much better if they had a morning sports show. Hallerin will not lose a lot of listeners, but if Mickey's show had any competition, well, that could be a different story.

Actually, Dearstone is PD of the Animal.

Rome (a national clown as opposed to local clowns?) has lost popularity in some markets and replaced by local programming wherever possible. The most listened-to sports talk is always going to be local or regional at best. I don't know much about Will West, but I do know Josh Ward brings a lot to the table, and would prefer to hear them over the ever bombastic Rome.

You would think, if you were broadcasting over three stations, that you could work things out over a scheduling conflict. Unless you sold time on the basis that the Smokies would be on all three at once, no preemptions.

All that said, the Animal isn't a major leaguer, but does fairly well for market #71.

Citadel Knoxville has lost serious momentum this year. And it's momentum they are not equipped to get back. Bobby Denton was a visionary and Jim Dick was visionary enough to let Bobby do what he needed to do. It made him hundreds of millions of dollars and national prominence for what he did in this market... Citadel does not have the vision, management, cash flow... to get that back.

You're talking about a day long gone, when people who worked in radio enjoyed working in radio and had microwaves (before they were in ovens) coursing through their veins. No modern corporate radio entity is going to bring that back nor do they want to bring it back. Make no mistake, if Citadel wanted it back, they could come up with whatever it takes to get it back. But face it, what is market #71 in the big scheme of things? Corporations are only interested in one thing for all of their properties: ROI.

Extremely true.

There's one stick in town now with all decisions being made in house. The on-air guy is also a sales rep, general manager, assistant bottle washer and probably ops and PD. I'm wondering what type of personality the station will have after everything settles in.

TC -- well stated. A

ND then you get these brilliant "one liners" posting on here everyday --- pushing their corporate tool wasteoid canned garbage....aka today's self professed version of radio "experts" that have NO CLUE ...who try to justify why radio is supposed to be lame today.

I have said for years, it's NOT what you make that matters...it's what you missed.

And Chitadull and Crackuluss have blown as much potential revenue as our friends in DC have spent this year. And these CEO stay? Wow!

Best news ---think about it...
Them little ole fellows from that thar little town in East Tennessee did what the ego-driven, NYC suits with
ALL that knowledge and Ivy League education couldn't do. Run a simple little radio station, in a media that is
dead and gone. AND yet, hmmm...this dead little entity, looked down upon as simple and tired, old fashioned and out of vogue...was way to much for these brilliant business executives. IT ACTUALLY MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

Radio will come back when those in the decision making offices stop looking the look and start walking the walk. Right out the door and into something else they can destroy. One great step for real radio taken today.

Well said Mr. Tibbs. Citadel's CEO has never worked in a radio station. He would know the difference of walking through one of Citadel radio station or a Ted Russell Ford store. That is what is wrong. Any CEO that would elimate the general manager position at a radio clusters in Knoxville that has billling of $ 16 plus million does not have clue. This was not the only Citadel cluster that he has eliminated the GM position for cost savings purposes.

I don;t know where you got the idea that Jim Rome was "popular" in Knoxville, but you're completely wrong on that one. It was their lowest-rated daypart by almost half. They couldn't find anybody that wanted to advertise during the show, see the PSAs they were running during local breaks the last two months the show was on. I knew a guy that was selling for them at the time. When the spots for the rest of your day are sold out but advertisers don't even want half-price spots during one show, you replace that show.

As for the Smokies, as I mentioned in the other thread, that's a very lucrative time-buy. I mean, try to sell cheap ads during the horrible Petros and Money show or take a guaranteed check every night from the Smokies. No brainer there.

Big fish eat the little fish. After awhile the big fish get too big to snap up the little fish. Then it's time for the little fish. Not saying JP is a little fish. Just saying he saw the big fish got too big and he took advantage of it.

In other words, e. g., everything goes in cycles and eventually comes back full-circle.

Fish are not good unless fried. I don t give a hoot in hell what kind of diet you are on..if you don t fry the suckers they taste like...FISH!

As for radio stations eating radio stations...last time I looked the top 5 in Kvle really never changes and the common element they all have is either power/coverage or ownership.

Back to fish..do NOT think by eating farm raised fish you are safe, the stuff that goes into those farm ponds will curl the lip on a pig!
