Who is playing Christmas music?

Maybe it's because I'm a liberal and open-minded person, but I enjoy hearing sounds of other cultures in Christmas and non-Christmas music. After all, music is a universal language.
I was hoping not to hear Paul MCartney's terrible "Wonderful Christmastime". I did.
I am open to some of the silly songs. I was glad to hear The Chipmunks one day, and the local morning show on my favorite station included Porky Pig. I draw the line at "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer".
Another song on the local morning show I was pleased to hear was "Christmas Time All Over the World" by Sammy Davis Jr., which was on my parents' Album Five, whatever that is. I heard it when I was young.

The keyboard on that song is about as irritating as it gets for me.
I heard "Deck the Halls" by Mannheim Steamroller this morning and it didn't do a thing for me but get on my nerves.
"It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" seems to be the song I've heard the most. Especialy Bing's version. Perry Como was on today. I had to go out and walk and I don't carry music with me. Any option other than radio is just going to complicate things for me and cost money, so that's why I have to object to the one good radio station playing annoying music.

I'm an 80's child, so I'm more used to keyboards than you are. LOL!
Strangely, I'm not bothered by a softer version of the same thing on Captain and Tennille's "Muskrat Love". But I have higher standards for Christmas music.

I was amazed by this version of "My Favorite Things" this morning. I would have guesed Charlotte Church or one of those opera singers. No, I think I heard Jeff Rollins say it was CARRIE UNDERWOOD! Now I watched her special and don't remember her being quite that good. She was good, but she's no opera singer.
Jeff said he watched "Holiday Inn" and heard the original version of "White Christmas", a duet with an actress he had never heard of. he said he'd like to play that version. I wonder who's telling him he can't?
Speaking of that song, K-Love played it. I don't know how much Christmas music they play but I didn't know they did any secular stuff. It wasn't exactly my taste but there was a world of difference between that and what that station normally plays.
And getting back to my usual station, meaning Jeff and other stations across the country rather than the local morning show, they played something atrocious which sounded something like Michael Buble if he used Auto-tune, which I sincerely hope he doesn't. He doesn't need it. The song was bad enough but the vocalist sounded so metallic. But nothing like what was on "Black-ish" last week. Those kids sounded like robots. That technology needs to be sent to a nuclear waste dump.
"Little Drummer Boy" was played twice within about 30 minutes. The second version was Michael Buble and Jennifer Warnes doing the Bing Crosby-David Bowie duet. I also heard an Elvis Presley-Anne Murray duet where they were not together when each recorded.
The worst thing about one of the ACs in my area is that they'll play a really good song and then I'll hear that annoying Delilah. It's not just her but knowing that they won't get back to the music right away.
I have a clock radio in the kitchen that comes on for Mike Huckabee each morning at 8:30. It was set for Paul Harvey back when he was still alive, but Mike Huckabee comes pretty close. It shuts off at 10:30 and although Karen Carpenter's "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" was the second to last song, some terrible version of "Carol of the Bells" was starting up when the radio turned off.

I thought it was an excellent stage adaptation based on the original 1959 Broadway version (which featured Mary Martin) and was pleasantly surprised by Carrie's performance.
Maybe that guy can't play the duet version because he has to stick to a specific playlist, just like ever other terrestrial radio station does.
In agreement about Delilah and Auto-Tune.

I sure thought I heard "Michael Buble" with Jennifer Warnes.
KMart was, of course, playing all Christmas music. I wouldn't have gone there but I needed a repair on my car, so I was passing by at lunchtime. I got milk. That's what I drink at meals. Also, Christmas cards were on sale. I don't send many but I was nearly out. It was truly a weird experience hearing the man best known as Tony the Tiger singing "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Jeff Rollins also plays that one. Hardee's, where I got lunch, seemed to have all Christmas music playing.
I can't believe it will all be over after tomorrow. I'm not ready. At the same time, because of all the songs I don't like, I can't just listen all the time. Nat and Natalie were singing "Chestnuts Roasting" last night on what is usually John Gleason's show. I must have still been within range when he spoke but I don't remember for certain hearing that it was him. My big problem with him is I want to hear him talk about the music, especially if I didn't know the song or the artist. He seems to want to talk about what's going on in the world or celebrity news and won't even bother to mention what was just played. He (whoever it was) was actually talking about the music when he said Celtic Woman was played. I think the song was "White Christmas". Nice version. Getting back to Natalie, of course the original with just Nat is better. I heard some off-the-wall something or other that ended with "Whoa-Oh" and a couple of other nonsense syllables, which I can't stand. It was Natalie.
On the local morning show yesterday the last song was a CCM version of "Angels We Have Heard on High". That is the wrong kind of station for that mess! I do not want to hear drums with that.
I had not heard "Mele Kalikimaka" this year until I heard it on "Mike and Molly" but Molly was playing it so much it got on everyone's nerves. I like it but I was starting to wonder if I'd feel the same way. Molly holds on to tradition because she misses her late father and I think that's similar to why I object to everything not in my comfort zone.
I think it was Andy Williams singing the song with the lyrics "He'll be comin' down the chimney now".
It's Angela Lansbury who sings "We Need a Little Christmas".

The vocal on "Mr. Grinch" was the late Thurl Ravenscroft, and it comes directly from the sound track of the 60's TV special. (And you're right about Tony the Tiger.)

But there is a reason, despite all the good music I've heard, why the radio is now off. Mike Huckabee wasn't on this morning but the inspirational stories from listeners yesterday were the same at 3:00 as at 8:30, so I'm hoping that will be true today. The second clock radio comes on at 3 and I'll get a few more songs unless I decide to turn the other radio back on. I don't know how to make the second radio stay on without preventing it from coming on at 3 the next day. But just before 10:30 when the first radio turned itslef off, the most beautiful version of "Joy to the World". Which was the introduction to dreck from Point of Grace.
Bobby Vinton does a nice Christmas song with the tune of "Auld Lang Syne". I heard the traditional lyrics of that one by James Taylor (I think).
Bette Midler did a song I don't recall ever hearing before but it's nice.
And then there was, for the third time (I wish I had never heard this one) Mannheim Steamroller's "O Tannenbaum". Now if they could only stop that one after the great men's group which sounds even better than the sailors at The Preakness. Or at least before all the Star Trek sound effects.
And the cast of "Glee"??? Now I enjoy the show if not most of their music. I used to like a lot of their music, actually.
I don't care how many sleigh bells or Christmas-related lyrics. If the music doesn't sound like Christmas, it just isn't Christmas music to me. Besides, being trapped inside in the snow sounds terrible.

Must have been after that lousy version of "The First Noel" he played as I went outside for my exercise. No, I don't carry music along.
And it all ends after tonight. I forgot to sample the various stations last night because I got busy. Maybe tonight. But they don't seem to understand my family doesn't even celebrate until tomorrow! I still want my music. The closest I can get without a lot of effort or expense is the Yule Log I recorded several years ago. I stil have to use this same one because the next year the same station included a bunch of junk in their Yule Log. I haven't tried again since. I just keep this one even though it means my TiVo fills up all the time. Maybe I should watch some of those old "Jeopardy" episodes because let's face it. I won't remember them and I wasn't wasting the time watching episodes I might have seen. Anyway, if I want music tomorrow, that will be it.

I just don't feel like it's Christmas. It's just a day when I'm alone and being inconvenienced by places being closed. The second day it has been this way. Every song that doesn't fit the image just cancels out the good songs. I've been happier since I turned the radio off.
I just haven't gotten into the Christmas spirit this year either.
The heavy rain yesterday didn't help matters.
We got a tiny dusting of snow overnight but it didn't stay long because it's too warm.
Enough of my gripes. Next year will be better!

It rained on me too. I know the people responsible won't read my complaints but it just makes me feel better to say what I need to say.
Perfect weather (almost; I wish it were warmer) today, but until the family gets together tomorrow, it just won't feel like a holiday.
