Who might buy KFNC 97.5 and KHJK 103.7

Radio continues down the path to irrelevance. Just return 103.7 and 97.5 back to LaPorte and Beaumont.

Willis, not LaPorte, my man. That's where 103.7 originated. Having said that, it ain't gonna happen.

I believe Willis was the second home of the original KVST. Huntsville was the first. It was then moved from 103.5 to 103.7, relocated COL to Willis and 99.7 KUST was born in Huntsville to simulcast the new 103.7 KVST-Willis. KUST then moved from Huntsville to Willis when Cumulus bought the station from New Wavo, while still at 99.7, only changing calls from KUST to KVST and the COL. KUST moved to 103.7, giving birth to the aforementioned "TV 103" and when the testing was completed it became KIOL-La Porte as "Rock 103.7". Whew....that was exhausting.

Technically, Chuck is right. 103.7 was born in Willis. La Porte never had its own service until 103.7 was moved in. Houston didn't steal that one, stan. It was never one of yours! :D

Correct. KVST was originally a Class A on 103.5. IIRC that lasted only a year or so before the move to 103.7 and an upgrade to a C3.

What a long twisted road these rimshots have traveled to where they are now. My bad.

And I guess 97.5 has actually moved to Mont Belvieu from Beaumont by now?

Well, no.

The change of KFNC's community of license dates back to a notice of proposed rule-making from the FCC back in 2004. It took a while but that was approved and an application to officially implement the change was filed with the FCC and a construction permit was granted in 2006. In 2009 a replacement application, virtually identical, was filed with the FCC to replace the CP that was about to expire.

The clock is ticking. The current CP, involving nothing more than a token change in community with no technical modifications, is set to expire in less than four months on August 13th.

ESPN 97.5 numbers are never really good numbers but the programming is really good with the exception of the lame mid day show where the say "what are the odds" and give there opinions.. (wack radio) but the Mike & Mike/The Herd/SVP and the DRIVE are really good shows. BOTTOM line if cumulus keeps any station in this market it will NEVER win... Yes the signals are rim shots.. but the company doesn't know anything about major market radio. Name another market thats larger than Houston where cumulus actually does well... shreveport, beaumont, mobile are the lanes that cumulus should stay in...

But all and all.. AS LONG AS SOME COMPETITION and JOBS comes back into the market bring us anything.. Sports, Urban, Urban AC, CHR, ROCK.. something other than another spanish station (even though thats where the money is)... STill If anyone disagrees with anything I say on this post ... CAN WE AT LEAST AGREE THAT... Houston is the worst major market city when it comes to radio... #BringBackRadio sheesh.
