Who Will Be First?

Who will be the first to flip an FM to talk in Dallas? FREE-FM didn't work but you have to think someone is going to put a traditional news talker on the FM side in DFW.

I think that I would keep the Cowboys and the extra programming that comes with it, but dump the fan and make 105.3 a FM talk station with like was stated earlier and put Charlie Jones on. I think a talk station on 105.3 would do better than all sports. The rest of the CBS FM's seem to be doing ok, even Jack which has no over head.

I have trouble thinking that any of the news talk stations would give up their am signals for fm, you look at stations like wbap and krld who have such good am signals that it would be a waste to buy a fm station

KEWS 94.9 Did Pretty good despite those AM's. If it wasnt for that Tower Collapse It would probably still be around.
And Remember 105.3 WAS Talk. It Failed.

105.3 had a different kind of talk. I am talking about KRLD-AM type of talk. I still think that will work. they ar doing it in Tulsa with KRMG, and that station ahas a very strong AM signal.

Yes! Oh, and we could call it "Live 105-3"!!! Genius! I love it!

This is becoming the norm these days, as AM stations are migrating over to the FM band. The AM band as a whole, is dying.

WBAP and KRLD may have great AM signals, but they have an old audience that's just getting older. That won't sell with the advertisers for much longer. It probably won't be long before AM goes the way of the dodo.

I Bet that would work. Like i said about KEWS 94.9. Im surprised no one has tried that since.

Speaking of 105.3, what the bleep are they doing to Rangers broadcasts? The announcers' voices are weak and tinny and the crowd noise (which drowns out the announcers' voices) sounds as though it was recorded from another game. Flip over to Sirius XM and the same audio is just fine.

How about Cumulus moving KLIF to 93.3? Speaking of which did anybody notice that QUALITY ROCK got a 0.7 in May? Over the years I have seen many people ask on this board (and just about every R-I board) "Why don't we have an AAA?". Then when one comes on nobody listens to it.

Most likely it is a combination of two things:

1. The feed from the ballpark to the studio is a digital codec

2. The audio gets processed by the station's multiband compression

XM-Sirius may not have all that multiband processing, which could be why ut sounds better there. I've had my own experiences with codecs and multiband processing. Usually similar issues occur.

I agree. I usually listen to Rangers broadcast on SiriusXM for the same reason. Better quality sound all around.

When did they flip? And these aren't the lat emay ratings are thye, it's too early for that...

So they got a 0.7 in what, the week after they went on the air?

I would hope that the 25-54 numbers show a better result for FM93-3. However, there are a few things they could do to improve...

1) Promote (Ads, billboards, Duke's t-shirts, bumper stickers)
2) Local morning show (nobody likes that P'teetong crap)
3) Play music in the morning

Agreed!! Especially regarding the morning show. They would be fine with music in the morning.
