Who will be the big winner this week in PPM?

Just an FYI Party FM did not start encoding with the PPM until December 1. These are not Party numbers.

The encoding is based on the facility, not the call letters or name. Do you mean that the coding of the WNYZ signal was discontinued?

This survey was through 11/12, anyway.

Congratulations are in order for X 96.3. Not only did they overtake La Mega 97.9 in the new ratings but also "established" stations like 'PLJ and Hot 97. I know it is the first month but that is an immense achievement! They may have even taken some audience from Hot 97, based on my reading of the numbers. I would have to say that most of X 96.3's rise is due to the better signal. There was a greatly loyal audience that stuck by the station when they were La Kalle and now the station has new muscle. At some point, though, they would have to hire some new jocks as La Mega would definitely respond to the much more tougher competition. The question is when.

Good job for CBS as well but they do have an issue with Fresh. It seems to be unable to wear down Lite FM and they've even lost some momentum. Even though it has a good cume a lot of those folks tune out after a while. Something has to be done to improve on those numbers.

There may be a question of how longer can WPAT and WRXP remain in the current states. The formats on those two stations may be so niche that neither has a chance to break into the higher positions, something that Now FM is starting to do, albeit slowly.

Party FM is still "new" and there apparently are a lot of p.o'ed Pulse fans who tuned out. They still have some time to build up an audience as they still play some of the dance music that Pulse used to play. It is a niche format that has taken a lot of knocks from the radio establishment and the disappearance of Pulse has not helped matters at all. I have some expectation that Party FM would become a better dance station than Pulse ever was, after a year or so, when JVC slowly realizes who is more likely to bread their butter. The great fear is down the line if the government tells the LPTV stations to stop analog broadcasts. Right now, JVC has the opportunity to settle into the market.

that is correct, Party needed to get new encoding equipment for WNYZ. If you check with ARB, they will tell you that they did not begin until Dec 1

I still wanna know how in the hell could WFME not only afford a $60 million stick, but still be on the air with a powerful signal but only 200,000 as their cume. PartyFM has twice the cume. WQXR actually got their numbers back, so I guess their 105.9 signal is doing just fine.

d21ofnj,

WFME as a Christian formatted listener supporterd station probably don't care too much about their rankings, but more concerned about saving souls.

WFME also has a strong, devout listener base that stays tuned, as opposed to switching from station to station.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

David, can you provide the morning ratings for WSKQ and WXNY? thanks.

Sorry, we are not subscribed. I see the numbers on the boards, and occasionally there will be a posting about numbers other than 6+ or 12+ or for dayparts

WFME was purchased in 1966 for a couple of hundred thousand, when FMs were not worth much.

And today, an FM that is not on the ESB may be worth maybe $35 million give or take, but not $60.

Since the purpose of the 61 Family Station group radio stations is evangalization and ministry, as Kevin said, they are looking for souls, not cume. There is no FCC rule that requires a defined level of listening.

Party FM has no numbers. Apparently they did not move the PPM encoders in the correct fashion when the facility changed its operator. The numbers in the November book are for the period that Pulse was still on the air. The November book is October 15 to November 12th.

OK, I like and listen to WCBS AM, and (disclaimer) my significant other is a CBS employee. But how much of the station's result in this round may be due to large numbers of people tuning in to listen to the World Series? That's got to be a factor, right? Maybe it's impossible to parse this, but nevertheless I'd like to think that it's due to WCBS doing a great job with their basic programming.

And while we're on the subject... let's talk about WBAI.

Go to http://www.arbitron.com/downloads/monthlyppmclientupdate12_7_09.pdf and at page 67 is a graph, day by day, of the daily cume in the playoffs and series. This obviously impacted WCBS rather significantly and explains the increases o fthe November book (which ran from October 15 to November 12) and, particularly, the odd demos for CBS that baseball brought.
