WHO WILL GO ALL-CHRISTMAS FIRST? WODS OR WROR?

Goodbye WODS & WROR-FM from my presets. See you December 26th...maybe. Now what to put in their places? 12 presets for F.M. are about 10 too many!

First..... death and taxes. Now..... WODS and WROR-FM went "all-Christmas"..... well before Thanksgiving. Like death and taxes..... this annual ritual shows no sign of going away... any time soon. Oh, well...... However, there are other Classic Hits/oldies outlets "out there", depending on where you are. North of Boston, you've got WBOQ/104.9 ("North Shore 104.9") from Gloucester and WMLL/96.5 ("The Mill") from Manchester, NH . South of Boston you've got WWBB/101.5 ("B/101") from Providence, WGTX/102.3 ("Dunes 102") from Truro and WCIB/101.9 ("Cool 102") from Falmouth . West of Boston you've got WORC-FM/98.9 ("'ORC-FM") from Webster, WWFX/100.1 ("100.1, The Pike") from Southbridge. And in Dudley/Webster you've got all-oldies WXRB-FM/95.1 ("The Golden 95.1!"). ALL these stations stream on the web and also are available through http://tunein.com . Guess we all gotta grin and bear it. And if you've got Sirius/XM, you're also "good to go". So, there is life outside of 103.3 and 105.7 . So ladies and gentlemen....... start your presets!!! :)

i have a question

why does greater media take WROR christmas and not 106.7 it seems like it would fit better on an ac station

tune in radio online and on smart phones has a great classic hits station commercial free type Hit Oldies in the search. :)

WMJX did the all-Christmas music format for one year only in 2005. Everyone complained, and so they are not going to do it again. WMJX always seems to stick to its roots for just about everything.

That's weird. AC WRCH here in Connecticut goes Christmas every year and you hear it in shops and offices right through the holiday. Did "everybody's" complaints about WMJX result in a big ratings dip for the station that year, or did the "fact" that the decision alienated the listeners somehow not affect listenership???

When Magic went Christmas in 2005 what day did they go? Would think around the same date both WODS and WROR flipped this year 11/11/11.

Could see if Magic went the day after Thanksgiving how WRCH does for the past couple years. They used to stay with regular music and just throw in a Christmas song ever two or so songs. Then they would only go straight Christmas on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

I think that Magic went Christmas the day after Thanksgiving or so, but I do not remember. Seems like in the past few years it has been who will flip first and how soon. The next year when they flipped WROR instead, WMJX still was about 30% Christmas. Seemed to work for them.

Honestly, I think that it was a nice strategical move to flip WROR instead. They are not a heavy player, but have lots of loyal listeners, and their ratings only go up when they are all Christmas music as well.

But it should be WMJX. Give it to the soccer moms & leave classic hits alone!

Ah, but GM is using WROR to keep WODS from getting monster ratings in December, and outshining WMJX. Cluster Programming 101 - ROR is used to flanker Magic by weakening ODS.

Happy Holidays everybody!

They tried that last year, and it didn't work. At least in the publicly accessible 12+, WODS was still #1 for December 2010, beating WMJX, WXKS-FM, WJMN, WBZ, etc... It was they only time of year WODS was #1 12+.

WROR also got a significant boost out of their Xmas programming, but didn't prevent WODS from topping WMJX in the 12+. I don't know about the 25-54 breakdown.

WROR has put an automated version of their regular '60s/'70s/'80s Classic Hits playlist on their HD2 channel through Christmas.

I assume that when their analog/HD1 returns to regular programming on 12/26, their HD2 will return to its usual "Nothing But The '70s" format, as they've done in recent past years.
