WHO WILL GO ALL-CHRISTMAS FIRST? WODS OR WROR?

WODS switched already?

WSRS/Worcester flipped as they always do although I'm not sure exactly when and I don't care enough to figure it out. ;D

SERIOUSLY, though, I'm pretty sure they were still normal format during the day on Monday. There's a post on their Facebook page from Monday night saying they made the flip.

98-9 WORC-FM Webster-Worcester (MA) flipped last night at midnight, according to the playlist on their website. They segued from John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John 'You're the One that I want" at 11:58pm to Santa Claus Is Coming To Town at 12:03 this morning. HOWEVER, there is nothing Christmasy about their website. My feeling is that they may be all-Christmas just for this holiday weekend and revert back to normal playlist on Monday (and possibly go back to all-Christmas again for the weekends until Christmas). Then again, I seem to recall them going all Christmas about this time last year and then morning guy Adam Webster, during his newsbreaks with Cruisin Bruce Palmer on The Pike, would openly complain about having to play/listen to Christmas music for weeks before Christmas. :D

If I'm not mistaken, WORC-FM did not go all-Christmas last year although they did sprinkle in holiday songs among the oldies. Additionally, I heard Adam Webster early on Black Friday morning say that 98.9 was playing a classic Christmas through December 25th.

I know it's not a Christmas song, but if I hear that Adam Sandler Turkey song again, I'm going postal. I've never been a fan, but that song makes me want to find that little creep and strangle him. No matter how fast I turn it off, it annoys me for hours.

Someone called WEEI's Whiner Line and did their own version with lines like "Mikey Adams gave a lotta girls VD" and
"can't believe the Sox are gonna hire Bobby Valentine"

This is kinda sad. After all these years, I guess we have to......retire this old thread!

I usually bring this thread back in August, but this year I was nice and waited until October!

It's that time again folks (except we don't have WODS anymore.....)!

First In 2012: WHBA, WROR, WMJX, WBMX, Or...?

This year (2012), I expect the new WHBA-101.7 (being A Christmas Channel [a/k/a Clear Channel] Property) will go first, and that it will be early in November, probably as soon as November 1st, in an attempt to get a jump on the competition.

I expect WBMX-104.1 will be CBS's local all-Christmas outlet; and Greater Media may decide to flip WMJX-106.7 instead of WROR-105.7 to all-Christmas, given that Soft AC stations like WMJX are the ones that in most markets get flipped to all-Christmas.

If WHBA goes first, WBMX and WMJX (or WROR) will follow quickly, maybe within minutes.

Boston may well have three all-Christmas stations this year, and I think they'll take the plunge on the first day of November.

Which, IMO, is way too early!

(BTW, I don't think anyone else will go all-Christmas unless it's a stunt to precede a format change after the Holidays)

The need to bring this thread back is zero.
As you state WODS is gone.

Dont think it will happen on WBMX 104.1 FM. if CBS does it all WODS-HD2 with promos on AMP 103.3 for streaming on office's computers.

So let me get this straight. CBS likes to go Christmas, Greater Media doesn't. But with WODS gone, everyone assumes that GM's WROR will go Christmas, or maybe the market's dominant AC, WMJX. Why is this a given? Why isn't CBS, which has a long history in Christmas radio, flipping WBMX even thought of as an option? To me, it makes perfect sense -- CBS is used to raking in the bucks every November and December and will find a signal to flip to maintain that cash flow. Why would CBS willingly let a rival make all the money, if in fact GM is even interested in going Christmas with WROR or WMJX at all?

Well, how's about this? WODS-HD2 may be the one who goes all Christmas this year! Anyone who has an HD radio can hear it, and everyone else who's got a connection to the internet will able to hear it, too.

Hard to see the ad agencies jumping aboard that train to nowhere.

Maybe they could flip WZLX to all-Christmas, and then after the holiday season, flip it to Fresh 100.7, as a competitor to WMJX.

It's the only pure classic rocker in the market and its ratings are solid and its listeners still attractive to advertisers thanks to the increased emphasis on '80s and even some '90s rock. IMO, it's unlikely to go Christmas and even less likely to flip to AC after the holiday. CBS only challenged Kiss because it had nowhere else to go with elderly-skewing WODS; right now there would seem to be no pressing reason to blow up ZLX.

My prediction is that BMX goes Christmas and General Media's (and Clear Channel's) FMs remain on-format.

ZLX does great in ratings for adults, maybe adult men. I would agree--Christmas? Fresh? No way.
About as likely as WBZ (AM) going all Spanish or brokered religion. (That's right, picture Brother
Stair on WBZ :) )
