Who will go All-Christmas this year? WROR or WMJX?

I thought I'd start a completely new thread about this whole topic. It's obvious that WODS won't be doing it this year, at least on their main channel. I don't think WBMX will be doing it either, since CBS already has a station doing it, even if it's not a main channel, so I think both WODS and WBMX can be left out of it.

As the topic states, I think the choice can be narrowed down to either WROR or WMJX. It would make sense for WROR to do it, since they've done it before for so many years and people were used to it. On the other hand, WMJX would be a good choice too, because in most markets, it IS the mainstream AC station that does it. I know WMJX did it once (2005), and people didn't like it so they didn't try it again, but they may have only moved it to WROR to compete with WODS. Also keep in mind that WMJX has had a makeover in the programming department, ever since Don Kelley left. In fact, I don't even know WHO the program director is now, so they could very well do it this year. Which of those two stations do you think is the better choice for All Christmas?

WODS-All Christmas on HD-3 already.http://betaplayer.radio.com/player/1033-wods-hd3

My guess is that it will be WMJX-106.7, given that in most other markets, it's the Soft AC station that goes all-Christmas.

For Greater Media, it would be a "win-win" situation:

(1) WMJX would go all-Christmas, which would probably be a better demographic fit than WROR's classic hits/oldies format for going all-Christmas. The demographics between the all-Christmas station in most cities better match WMJX than WROR.

(2) With WODS-103.3's oldies/classic hits format gone, WROR could benefit by keeping with their regular format (with a few Christmas songs sprinkled in once December arrives) over the Holidays, satisfying both their longtime fans and listeners who began tuning-in when WODS flipped.

No matter which station Greater Media decides to flip, they may have to do it earlier than they want. I am convinced WHBA-101.7 (given that they are owned by Clear Channel, the most aggressive company as regards all-Christmas formats) will flip first, probably as soon as November 1st. This will force Greater Media's hand and would make them flip whatever station they designate as all-Christmas as soon as possible after WHBA does.

Should CBS Radio Boston's WBMX-104.1 also go all-Christmas this year (I actually think they will!), it too may flip earlier than their management wants should WHBA take the plunge on or shortly after November 1st.

The bottom line: Ten days from now (I'm writing this on October 22nd), we could have three all-Christmas stations in town!

Dream On! WHBA-FM won't convert to all-Christmas, since it's just starting to establish itself. WMJX-FM tried it once and it failed! WROR-FM will have the Christmas music market to itself. I'll bet you that WKLB-FM will have all Christmas weekends from Friday at 3 p.m. until 12 Midnight on Sunday. And it'll go all-Christmas for 48 hours from Noon Christmas Eve until Noon the Day after Christmas. And they'll open an HD3 channel of their own celebrating all holidays. Not just Christmas, but St. Valentine's Day, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, the Fourth of July, Halloween and Thanksgiving. And of course, you'll see the two Worcester stations go all Christmas.
But who's to say? I'll bet you that this weekend, one or two of these stations will go all-Halloween! Hmm....

Come on really guys your gonna make another thread about this ?

talk about something other then what Station is going all christmas if your not a female 35-44 then it should not matter too you put your feet up and watch the game or something geez

Again, why would CBS willingly give up all that guaranteed advertising money it got over the years from going Christmas on WODS? Surely, they can't be getting any significant amount of cashflow from the HD3. Why does everyone just assume that CBS will shrug its collective shoulders and turn over the whole Christmas ad bonanza to the competition? WBMX goes Christmas, bank on it.

As someone else said, you really needed to start a brand new thread so everyone can say the exact same thing they they've already said multiple times on the existing threads? ???

You realize that by starting this new thread, it only encouraged Joe Gallant and everyone else (except me) to start more new Christmas music threads when you all could have kept the old ones going since everyone says the exact same thing every single year and the only thing that changes is the occasional format. Oh you realized that would happen? Ok, just checking. ??? ;D

I think it will be WUNR.

Only some segments of their leased-time programming will. I'd imagine one will be going all-Eid any day now, and another all-Hanukkah a half dozen weeks later.

No Xmas music as of 11/3 except 103.3 FM HD-3. Think it will be only WROR but not until 11/15 to Thanksgiving.

I wouldn't.

I agree. HUGE mistake. Hot ACs don't generally fare well when they do the all Santa thing.

WRCH owns Christmas in the Hartford market.

Yep, and that's because WRCH is one of the softest AC's in the region. Hot A/C / Adult CHR WTIC-FM doesn't flip to Christmas for that reason. They sprinkle it in.

So you're saying that if CBS decided to move WTIC (AM) to 96.5 and flip WRCH to hot AC instead of straight AC (yeah, I know, that's not going to happen, but just suppose, OK?) that CBS would leave all that Christmas advertising cash on the table and let WDRC-FM grab it by becoming the only all-Christmas station in the market? I just don't get why the WBMX scenario is impossible, I just don't. This is big money we're talking about and everybody here says CBS will just write it off because it's some sort of radio Commandment that you don't flip anything but an oldies or soft AC to all-Christmas. I can't believe that CBS's suits said during their discussions of flipping WODS to CHR, "Let's put that Christmas music on the HD3 stream. There couldn't be more than 1,000 people in this market who like that stuff and besides, who needs all that advertising."

WRCH isn't that soft anymore. Poker Face and Bad Romance by Gaga isn't what I would call soft. Neither is I Got Feeling by The Peas. The way the music mix has changed at WRCH over the past year or so I'm surprised they haven't played Gangnum Style. :p They need to changed WRCH to FRESH 100.5 and be done with it.

BTW the ratings may not have shown it (The right people didn't have the People Meter), but I know a lot of people who liked the XMAS Music on DRC-FM better than WRCH's.
