Who will Julie hire to replace Depetro?

They already carry a best-of-Beck on Sat nights (insert "they shoulda kept Jay Diamond on!" comments
here). That would be a cheap (syndie) way to fill the slot, but I'd think they'd want to go live & local.
Possible solution: move someone like Feinburg to the 9-noon slot and replace him at 7 pm with
tape-delayed Beck on nights when there's no Celtics or Red Sox game...Celtics are on 2-3 weeknights per week...and once Sox get going, most nights there will be a game at 7 (or possibly 8 or 8:30 pm
when they're in certain cities) and whomever gets the 7 pm slot will be often pre-empted or
curtailed anyway...

feinburg to 9am, savage back to 7 so he's live, beck at 10pm.

sounds like the typical RKO merry-go-round. Testing ground is 7 PM, flip it over to 9 AM when you get
tired of the inability to draw ratings of significance. Why don't they just hire real talent?

I'm quite sure Parenteau's not very happy with me right now because one of his friends probably sent him an essay I wrote about my thoughts on the entire sordid affair.

An essay? Tell uswhere we can read it!

Please post!

feinburg's the guy with the lowest ratings on the whole station, so it makes sense to promote him!! ;D

nah - depetro and miller both lower, although feinberg's not been on long enough/consistently enough to take credit/blame for ratings.

How about hard hitting conservative talker from out west named Jim Dallas who lost his show on 50kw KDWN Las Vegas when new owner Beasley dropped all local talk shows for national shows. I believe he is still at the station doing production and board op shifts till something comes up. He would be a good fit at RKO.

How about the Christy and Ross show. That might be fun for a month or two. Ross's should even lovingly be called the abbreviation of "FL" as a tongue and cheek reminder. Think of the arguments they could get into on the air and how Mihos speech would be as funny at times as the Menino show could be. It would almost be like Clapprood & Whitley on acid. Hmmm maybe there's a show idea?

Sensing the mood of the electorate, WRKO puts on an all-local, all-liberal lineup and their ratings plunge
even faster than when WHJJ switched to Air America. Only Red Sox baseball keeps
them from winding up with lower ratings that WKOX :)

wrong wrong wrong, Bob. You wish. Think WBUR. WBUR. WBUR.

That's a dry station and it trounces WRKO. Give Ed Schultz a platform over the deflated Rush.

You don't have the experience in radio, Bob, to keep making those assertions without backing them up with
facts.

I give you the Arbitrons and WBUR as an example. You refuse to do that. You just pour your opinion all over
this board while RKO's ratings are sinking as quick as WBCNs.

no no no! WBUR is one of the reasons air america is a complete failure. Liberals already have their talk radio, and the NPR product is well done. AA is not. Schultz is an ordinary talent who has a career because he seized on the liberal niche at the right moment.

MY GOD, today's a new low for 'rko!! Thought it couldn't get worse, Sen. Brown did it!! Boring dreck..

For the record, as part of what you call "boring drek" he's interviewing people like Ernie Boch Jr. and
Scott Zolak about the charity work they're doing. Yeah Brown doesn't have the most radio-ready
voice. If it weren't for his politics maybe Air America coulda hired him :)

>>Liberals already have their talk radio, and the NPR product is well done. AA is not.

Add to that the fact that most talk radio listeners are older, and older folks may have drifted to the right.
Yes, some "college age activists" and old hippies might tune in, but the younger audience that leans left
might be too busy listening to their I-pods or WFNX, WBCN, WAAF, etc. (And..are college students included
in ratings? If not, that could explain AAR's weak numbers.) Or WBUR if they're interested in news/talk.

With Clear Channel cost-cutting it could be bad news for their prog-talkers--even the ones who go strictly
syndie. They may go to something more profitable like sports...the prog-talker in Binghamton NY
(actually a Citadel station) just did, though, granted it was a weak signal (Fybush: "As of Monday, WYOS joins ESPN Radio")

Like I said.

Commercial radio is different. WBUR runs a tighter and better ship than WRKO.

Their ratings reflect it. I would love to see what they generate for cash over there (WBUR)
