Yes. Public radio should actually go commercial--loosen the regs and allow them to run spots. This will enable them to get money without begathons. In Canada
there are "semi-public" stations that will run jazz, blues, etc. and do both pledge announcements AND
actual ads (up to 4 min. an hour--Volvo, Air Canada, etc.)
All things Considered will return after this message from Budweiser.
by the way, The Incredible Shrinking Network (hint: they just declared bankruptcy) continues to shed
stations. New Orleans, Madison WI (not too many progressives there, eh), and now Binghamton. Replaced
by: rebroadcasts of WWL shows (thanks Entercom!), Fox Sports, and ESPN, respectively. CC trimming jobs
nationwide and going to cheap syndie programming that actually makes money...will the axe fall on WXKS (AM)
and WKOX...?
(N.O. station owner Entercom; Madison station owner Clear Channel; Binghamton station owner Citadel)
