Who Will Replace Gerry House?

If anybody writes "Rick & Bubba" I'll say "that's the easy cheap way out."

What a great question and what a hard thing to think about. First, when someone follows a person this well liked, the comparisons usually kill the new guy. About the only person I could see able to pick up is Charlie Chase. Both he and Steve McCoy from Atlanta have likeability with stars and listeners, use humor, and are pretty easy going.
But Gerry is such a relaxed person that everyone else feels like a formated jock working around a talk clock.

I'm surprised Charlie isn't on the air somewhere.

Eddie Edwards...wait, WSIX did that already.

From the "Where Are They Now?" files: Carl P. Mayfield, Keith Bilbrey, Coyote McCloud would be good local choices. Bill Cody would be a good move if available.

Please, no Rick & Bubba or Bob & Sheri.

I heard Carl P Mayfield when he did mornings at KDF, and I was not impressed. They didn't renew his contract because he couldn't pull in the numbers. Granted, I'm not all that impressed with House, either... Keith Bilbrey has the name recognition, Bill Cody - great delivery and high entertainment value, but I don't see them making their mark like House has. And Coyote, while a fine talent, doesn't fit. It's like putting Rick Morino at KDF! We saw how well that worked (no offense, Rick).

I would bring Eddie Foxx back to Nashville, give him half of what House is making (give or take a couple hundred thousand), and pair him up with the morning team he had at KDF. There would be no comparison because Foxx is nothing like House, he's got name recognition, can keep listeners entertained, and doesn't fake the lifestyle!

Big D and Bubba...CC moved them from Baton Rouge to Nashville when Gerry was ill a few years ago. They are on in morning drive in several markets so the change would be easy......thats what I understand but what do I know?

Bob and Sheri have already been tried twice, and failed twice, here in Nashville. They were on Star 97 and Venus 102.5, and left both stations long before those stations' next format changes. I believe we can safely color them gone!

Moving Big D and Bubba to live mornings at WSIX would make the most sense as a replacement.

Or Bobby Knight?

From what I've been told, Carl P. Mayfield has burnt too many bridges with most radio folks in Nashville and that most radio people are no longer willing to work with him. Coyote McCloud is in his 60s and dealing with health issues, so even if he were interested in coming back, it would probably only be a couple of years at most and then WSIX/CC would be in the market again for a new morning host. And listening to Bill Cody on 650 WSM, I get the feeling he is happy where he is at and being a part of the Grand Ole Opry family, a claim he could no longer make if he were to leave for another station in Nashville.

I went by Clear Channel today to visit old friends and spoke with the PD's of The Rock, The Beat and WSIX FM. Kaufman, six pd, told me when I asked about Gerry, "p*Ias97 ane byciel t8at jaqejjs we][pw w0 wjzt we bc.we tp d0

You know the saddest part of this conversation. That the choices are so limited. Years ago people were lined up to work here, and did a great job after they got here. I'm counting the best choices on one hand, and none make me feel like they would top Gerry. Remember Gerry has a good team around him. I'm sure he'd do well by himself because he'd work the phones, but he's clearly comfortable with the team and they make him all that much better. I'd hate to see the show resort to a time and temp jock hoping Reba or Martina would call in and say something funny or reporting on seeing Vince Gill out eating somewhere. House relates to regular people better than any of those named so far.

My vote goes to Gator and The Stykman on WGSQ 94.7 out of Cookeville. They have a great morning show; especially for a market that size! While I like Gerry House, mainly because of Mike Bohan, it's hard to listen to it because every 30 seconds there seems to be a commercial. When it's not commercial time Gerry is promoting someone's business. Gator and the Stykman are definitely better than the other 2 Nashville stations' (WKDF & WSM-FM) morning shows. I think they'd be a great fit. In fact, it seems like they have been on WSIX some Sunday afternoons in the past. I'd hate to see them not on 94.7 The Country Giant though, that's their home.

Should Bohan stay when House finally calls it quits, how about bringing in Mike Donegan? "Mike and Mike" show re-appears thirty or so years later.

Gator Harrison was on Y-107 for a number of years (he may have also been on 107.5 the River for a few years after the switch). I think he may have also done weekends on WSIX before he headed off for Cookeville and the Country Giant.

Do Big D and bubba still do their show from Nashville? Is the show working well enough for cc to keep it. Only saying there are so many syndicated morning shows, how do they all survive.
Only 2 problems with this subject: (1 Has Gerry ever announced a retirement date? We all assume he's retiring. (2 are the ratings for WSIX FM after Gerry goes off still way off the rest of the day.
In other words one could argue that Big D and bubba being on afternoon drive now hasn't done much for the "big" 98 so what difference would they make in the AM. And since Gerry is really all that makes 98 "big" ...I'd bet CC will try to keep him around longer than just this year or next. Altho it would be cheaper to put those 2 in than. 98 looses big when House leaves.

I was just having fun. Like a lot of people on here I'm so far out of the loop any more that I don't have a clue what's going on in Nashville radio. (Have some info on what WENT on in Nashville radio at one time). I had stopped and spoken with Koffman that day... ONE thing I've gotten out of nearly 45 years in this business....is friends. It was worth it all,
And no....I didn't ask about Gerry. If I were going to do that, I'd ask Gerry. Something about old news guys....we like to go the source to get the story if we're covering it.
