Who wouldn't have seen this coming?

KRLD FM and KRLD AM are now both flagship stations for your Texas Rangers

1053thefan 105.3 The FAN joins NewsRadio 1080 KRLD AM as a flagship station for your Texas Rangers! Weekday games on 105.3 FM, weekend games on 1080 AM

This came from 105.3's twitter account.

So, is there money being wasted at The Fan, IF the Fan has weekday games?

Im sure they did it that way so it wouldnt interfere with their hard hitting NASCAR converage.

What do you mean?

We'll find out if money is being wasted if they can't improve on the .5's and the 1's they've been getting in the last PPM...

I somehow think the whole station can't be carried on the revenue they make from the Rangers...

I view this as yet another indication CBS is moving all of KRLD programming to KRLD-FM, and they'll eventually unload the AM station. More than likely, it's a cost cutting move for CBS, plus the AM band seemingly is withering away.

Nor from the revenue of the Dallas Cowboys, were they to go there. In the proposed "new deal" money would only be flowing TO the Cowboys, not the other way around. How DOES such a revenue model work to keep a station on the air, anyhow? Or is it simply the goal of a couple of locak CBS execs just to have seats in a luxury suite at the new stadium?

The thing I don't understand is why the Rangers are letting their coverage be split. (Unless of course they don't really have a say). But if I were them, I'd want ONE station to be my flagship. Much easier for the listeners to know where to find it, rather than have to be punching car buttons or twisting dials to find the game...

And not having weekend games leaves the Fan free to carry the Cowboys games. If they can just get out of their contract to carry Nascar. The story I hear is that the TMS contract is 'iron clad', and there's no easy way out for The Fan. So if they're paying TMS to go away, and giving Jerry a ton of inventroy to sell, I wonder where the heck they WILL make money....

The Rangers, NASCAR, and The Cowboys?? How in the world are they gonna pull THAT off?? It sounds like sports fans are gonna be chasing their teams all around the dial!!

"I wonder where the heck they WILL make money...."

They won't. The goal is for DH and a few CBS clients to play big shot in the new stadium & Super Bowl XLV, combined with a misguided belief that they can rock the financial foundation of THE TICKET.

Why should I care that I left millions on the table, when I get white glove service in the Luxury Box?

So true, UncleCharlie. So true.

Hearing car races on the radio is as exciting as watching paint dry. The idea of having the Ranger games on FM during the week and AM on the weekends is beyond stupid.

Last time I looked, when the Rangers are on TV they can be on 4, 27 or FSN . Same for other sports. The Stars are on channel 27, 36, Versus and even NBC. People seem to find the game.

as a general rule, people flip through all their tv channels, but only their pre-set radio stations. only the most motivated will seek it out and add to the presets. most will just fall to their P2, P3, P4 and the pasive Rangers listner, P3 and under, is gone.

the all Weekday vs Weekend is an attempt to make it as simple as possibe, but it is an uphill battle from the word go

Sounds like a perfect match. Neither CBS radio nor the Rangers know how to build a winner. They can suck together.

"Beyond stupid" may be a bit much, but I don't think it's a smart move. At the least, you're losing the positioning battle in the listeners mind of 'my Rangers station". Even casual fans can probably tell you who the flagship is and where you can hear the games. The causal fan will have a harder time remembering which games are on which stations which days.

Then you (as a station) need to spend time promoting which games are where (catch tomorrow nights game on our sister station KRLD-AM) instead of using that promo inventory to cross promote your own station (Think the ump blew that call? Call into the Newey show tomorrow morning at 10am and let him know what you think)

doesn't add up. So NASCAR runs every Sunday (for the most part). Cowboys play on Sundays (for the most part), September-November, nothing but conflicts. Rangers will be playing August-September (fair to say they won't be playing longer than that). Weekday games on The Fan, weekend games on KRLD, so you can't move NASCAR races to KRLD... Someone is going to lose here (besides anyone still listening to the garbage on The Fan). You know what I think? I think the smart folks here believe David Henry and Gavin Spittle are evil. In fact, I think they just lack the smarts needed to do the job they were assigned to do. They have been faking it for a long time. Question is, how have they gotten away with faking it for this long?

So... ummmm.... Any chance the Ranger games will be in stereo on The Fan? ;D

That'd be pretty cool. 8)

To answer you question, if you can even listen to the Rangers in HD. :O

Rangers will be on The Fan during the summer, Richie Whitt told me that the Cowboys over at The Fan is almost a perfect match that will be made.

So NASCAR goes where?

Down with the Fan, Back UP with LIVE.
