Who'll replace Scott Graham? And how long will the Phillies stay on WPHT?

Graham's leaving, right? I'll miss "Put this one in the win column..." even if most on this board won't. But I won't miss his "Graham Slam" pitches.

Also, on the CT board they are discussing WTIC replacing the Bosox with the Bronx Bombers. With the Cards leaving KMOX, the Bucs, KDKA, and the Twinkies, WCCO (blowtorches all), all this got me wondering... well, reread the second question in the thread title.

This already happened when the Phils left WPHT for WPEN. They came back to WPHT. I don't know how long the contract is for (3 years, my guess), but clearly WPHT, being a 50KW non-directional clear channel station, is much more listenable than anything else on the AM dial except for KYW. My other guess would have been WIP but that must not have worked to Infinity's liking when some games two seasons ago were moved to WIP due to WPHT's Friday Night Sinatra program.

I will probably break down and buy the MLB web audio package next year, just because I enjoy baseball on "radio".

I know it's gone know, but were the Phillies still on two station in Allentown this season OLDIES 1470 and ESPN 1320, which IIRC was a repeater for an out of market station?
No, the Phils were only on one station. 1320 is a repeater for WEEX Easton / 1230. They're treated as twins. They carried Yankees baseball.

In the LV the Phillies were only on WKAP (Oldies 1470) and, after the format flip, WYHM, which is programmed now as Contemporary Christian. I wonder if they gave back advertising dollars after the format flip?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Phils move to 1320 next year, but the LV is increasingly becoming a Yankees town with an influx of people moving to the area from NYC and nearby NJ. Those folks would be ticked off to lose the Yankees games.

I'll wager an educated guess on what will happen to "fill" Graham's spot.

Either...

a) PR guy and Channel 6 alum will do a little radio/TV work for the club this year in addition to the Sunday pregame show "Behind the Pinstripes"

or...

b) No one will fill the void. I'm sure Franzke can handle the bulk of the innings on radio with Kalas doing play by play in the 4th and color the 5th and 6th innings.

I cannot see the Phils going after an established voice or bringing up a minor league broadcaster.

Don't forget that Allentown will have their AAA Phillies team (the Iron Pigs) starting play in 2008. Although they won't need an radio outlet in '07, you know that they will want an agreement in place as soon as possible. With the Yankees, Phillies, and AAA teams, the AM waves in the Lehigh Valley should be filled with the sounds of many a peanut vendor.

I should point out that nothing is official yet. The team hasn't announced the broadcast team for 07.

What's the guy's name? I no longer live in the Philly market.

I cannot look forward to listening to more and more Franzke next year. He sounds like a bored Tom McCarthy.

Really enjoying the banter about Graham's possible departure from the Phillies booth. I would hope the Phils would take a look at Steve Degler, the voice of the Reading Phillies. He did some fill in work with the Phillies pre-and-post games several years ago. He is a wealth of baseball knowledge and a real pro.

Again...I suppose I'm prejudiced, since I worked with the guy before.

Odd, I thought I put his name in when I posted it...heh. It's Scott Palmer that I speak of in option A. My bad.

I agree. "Degs" would be a wonderful choice. I'd love to see it happen for my longtime buddy, whom I also worked with. There isn't a better gentleman in broadcasting. Steve was my driver for my wedding....hope that would be good for a few comps  ;D

Just heard on WIP. Gary "Sarge" Matthews is being added to the Phillies broadcast team. Also announced was that Harry Kalas was given a 3 year contract. Terms were not disclosed, but a report said that the deal included stock in Seagrams.  :p

On this chilly day, that's certainly something worth looking forward to! With only three local stations audible in Allentown at night, it would seem that something's gotta give... would all 3 AM stations air baseball at night (Phils, Iron Pigs, Yankees)? Or, perhaps, the Yankees games go onto an HD side channel. Or an FM station picks up the Iron Pigs.

He did some play-by-play, too. I remember he sounded professional -- somewhat like Scott Graham, and clearly knew baseball.

Yes, I remember Scott Palmer very well. Thanks. Sorry if I repeated this, but I didn't format it right the first time.

Detailed article about the Phillies' broadcast team in the Inquirer - http://www.aberdeennews.com/mld/philly/sports/16190257.htm?source=rss&channel=philly_sports

(don't know why the Aberdeen News link came up).

Says that Franske will take Graham's slot. Says also that they might split up radio & TV except for Kalas in the 4th inning on radio.

Acknowledges that Kalas & Wheeler do fine on air but are not personal buddies. Recommends Wheeler continue to be TV & radio analyst, not play-by-play, which makes sense.
