Who's Filling The 1970s Void? What Other Moves May Happen?

I think AGH did decent enough to warrant a translator signal. I think it had more potential than "Journey" which has failed in Cincinnati and Pensacola.

I'm surprised, too, that Journey didn't morph into something resembling AGH. IMO 97.9 would do better doing 70s and 80s instead of walking into the buzzsaw of B98.5, which has doubled down on currents/recurrents and has gotten really thin with 80s material.

"Journey" was a Cumulus brainchild, though, so even if it's not doing great, it would probably be a bit defeating/embarrassing for them to flip it in their flagship market. The format hasn't done that great where they've tried it. I'd be interested in knowing how Journey 97.9 is doing these days. It should have been adjusted to 70s and 80s, IMO.

I think Cumulus Media Network's "Classic Hits" format would be/would have been a nice choice for Cumulus. It sounds somewhat like AGH did and is better than True Oldies Channel, IMO. More personality, too.

IIRC Hippie is not part of a "cluster".

That is why it sounds so good.............DJ's, imaging, etc. etc. Even if the River did this it would be so much better than what it is now, or 100.5....

Hippie has "Spider" (1510 WLAC late 70 and early 80's night jock) VTing from California. Who is left from 790 or Z93 from that era that is available?

I am sitting here listening to this station and I am just fuming and foaming at the mouth that a market bigger than Nash does not have anything close to this. Totally unacceptable.

Chattanooga has a Hippie radio at 106.9. It's a great station. Local jocks on all day. You can listen live on their website.

Ross Brittain
Scott Shannon
Dale O'Brien
Randy Reeves

The first two probably cost too much and the last two I think are happy doing VOs. There's also Dan Mason and John Young, both of whom are probably too comfy with their C-level jobs.

Just saw this, but actually the "Hippie" format is a nationally-distributed format. A satellite format, of sorts.

Chattanooga also has a classic hits station at 107.9.

Atlanta probably lacks 1970s pop more than any other market in the southeast. Most southeastern markets that don't have classic hits formats at least have an older-leaning AC or an Adult Hits station which fill that void somewhat.
