Who's on first?

I was reminded of this when my radio station played The Guess Who this morning, and the DJ said something along the lines of, "That was Guess Who? No Guess. Guess Who was the band. Who's on first?" Finally the DJ explained that Guess Who was a band. His target audience would not be people who actually knew that.

Which reminded me of a routine similar to that Abbott and Costello which was in my newspaper years ago.

It was about The Who, The Guess Who, The Band and Yes.

I looked for this online but couldn't find it. Unfortunately, the only way may be to go to a library database, which means I can't simply provide a link, and it would be copyrighted so I can't just copy it here.

SCTV's Eugene Levy and Joe Rosato, as Abbott & Costello hosting Wolfman Jack's Midnight Special (!!!) did something very similar, but the "Guess Who" was not involved in the skit. This was pretty much the ending of it:

Lou: Let me get this straight---Yes was booked, Who's on next week, and The Band is playing tonight.
Bud: That's the first thing you've said right.
Lou: I don't even know what I'm talking about....and frankly this whole thing is for the birds.
Bud: What did you say?
Lou: I said, this whole thing is for the birds.
Bud: Ahhh, they broke up long ago.
Lou: Eeee--yeee--yeee!

You're thinking of the sketch done in the 70s by "The Credibility Gap," starring Harry Shearer (later of SNL, Spinal Tap and The Simpsons). You need Real Player for this:

Thanks, I thought it was original to Doug Robarchek. I know how to find it if it was him, but I can't post a copyrighted article and the link wouldn't do any good snce I have to be at the college I graduated from. I'll see if this is the same routine.

This morning the DJ said something along the lines of "No, I don't want you to guess who the band is. That's the name of the band. Who's on first? Who was on first in that routine?"

And I was not able to find the Charlotte Observer version online. If it's not where I looked, I don't think there is an index which will point us to the microfilm. I still haven't gotten around to listening to the other one.
