WHUR

Why doesn't WHUR air Howard Football or Basketball?

Howard operates WHUR as a commercial business. Putting college basketball and football on a station targeting women 25-54 would be a tune-out especially in a major market like Washington.

Should they make an exception for the NCAA tournament this week? Perhaps, but tomorrow's game is in afternoon drive and again has major tune-out factor. Howard is well behind other schools in the Washington area in terms of fan bases with Georgetown, University of Maryland, and George Washington well ahead and arguments to be made for University of Virginia and Virginia Tech as well.

The Grizzlies were on an R&B station when they moved to Memphis. It seems to me that you could make up that revenue, especially in today's environment to suppot your athletics program by airing their games.

NBA in market #52 where they are the only pro game in town and a second/third tier college program in market #8 are not the same.

Does WHUR have an HD subchannel? That is where Howard University sports should go. After all, WAMU doesn't run American University sports either.

I would imagine WHUR does not act like a college station in other respects. I assume everyone on the air, even on weekends, is a paid professional. Maybe it uses some Howard University students for internships.
