Why 95.7 Sports May Work

^^ My apologies for coming off condescending as that was not my intention. You and I feel the same way basically, I can agree with most of what you're saying. The Rise guys I've also had the same complaints. Questions for Kriedler and the constant making fun of him is old and tiring. Also Kriedler seems to whine too much. His whiney voice can work my nerves at times.

No worries, Phadeks... I know things don't always come across online the way they are intended.

It's the difference between speaking to a person face-to-face as opposed to writing them (online or not). I once got into a huge argument with a friend on email because I made a light-hearted joke she took seriously. I'm sure if we were face to face, she would have realized that I was not being serious.

If anything, their will be (eventually) a signal swap with 102.9...if the Game wants to really compete, then folks go to be able to get their signal, and get it everywhere in the Bay Area, not in spots...as KNBR can be heard throughout the region.

Those two signals - 102.9 and 95.7 - should be pretty much the same in signal strength. They're both essentially 6.5 kilowatts from Mt. San Bruno. They both have boosters on Mt. Diablo. If 102.9 is stronger anywhere then somebody ought to start looking at the facilities.

I do think that the A's recent winning streak must have caused an uptick in PBP listening, and no matter what anyone says, that spills over. You get back in the car the next day after listening to the game, etc. It can't be hurting.

There seems to be this undertone here that people want this to fail. Not sure why, the fact we have ONE sports station is pathetic, you should all want 95.7 to stay for good, for variety sake. Instead it's like you're happy they struggle with ratings. KNBR is garbage. Numbers are not, people listen for two reasons, the Giants and the length of time they have been on. That's' it.

I don't think it's a case at all of rooting for the 95.7 to fail. I think it's more a case of recognizing what 95.7 could be. Right now, everything is far too segmented and repetitive. I don't listen to KNBR because they have the Giants and have been on for 20+ years. I listen to KNBR because they have more knowledgeable hosts that don't scream at me and they don't go over the same topics every 20 minutes.

I believe if CBS Radio owned this station it would be performing much better then the station currently is. Just look at what CBS has done in Boston with 98.5 The Sports Hub, that station has been performing better then heritage Entercom owned WEEI. And it didn't take The Sports Hub long either. Sure CBS already had two play by plays the Patroits from WBCN and Bruins from WBZ 1030. You would think heritage always wins but that isn't the case. Which Entercom thought because they didn't bother to move WEEI to FM fast at all. I wonder what if CBS SF flipped an FM to sports even still with 95.7 as sports and the Cumulus sports station. Wouldn't really happen if CBS did have a play by play, not sure how the contracts are for SF area.

If CBS flipped an FM to Sports, im pretty sure they wouldnt be able to draw from there CBS Sports Network, which is found on KNBR.

They can just wait until KNBR's contract is up.

Chances are, 95.7 will be something other than sports by the time that contract is up if they continue down their current path.

And with the latest book, 95.7 falls back to earth with 0.8. I cannot believe the PD hasn't been canned or that the station just hasn't switched formats again.

I'm guessing baseball season will be there last chance. If they can't move the needle but next fall, then it will probably be time to update some resumes or even spin the format wheel again.

Not necessarily saying this is the case for 95.7, but I remember reading somewhere else that the sports demo is much easier to sell than many others. Remember, we're looking only at the published numbers.

It's a 4 year contract so The Game will be around at least another 2 years. Funny line from the 2011 story on the format flip..."With “The Wolf” ratings hovering in the low 1′s, they had to do something." I think KGMZ would kill for those ratings now!
