WHY DON'T WE HAVE A GOOD HAWAIIAN MUSIC STATION?

I truly feel the Islander community here in Houston isn't being served. Plus, we're talking REAL money here. Have you ever been to Hawaii? It's EXPENSIVE!!! Yep a nice 100KW City Grade FM. And I even have a slogan...."All Ukeleles All The Time!" or "You like this Music? Well here's SAMOA!!!" C'mon Houston, let's all get behind this!!!! It's a Cash Cow or would that be a Roast Pig? See ya' at the Luau!!

Hey Colonel,

Let's not forget all those who love Polka music. Man... I could do with a triple play of Frankie Yankovic right now ;D

I was hoping for a station that plays nothin but TV themes.

Yeah, why dont we have a Hawaiian music station? And Polka music is also good!!!! Houston tries to copy each other we need different stations.

Ya know Kevin, Lawrence Welk's variety show theme was kinda a polka so that would fit in with the polka format.

I was gonna suggest a good polka station, but then I figured some wise**s would mention, what is it, KANI in Wharton (which I can't even hear when I'm IN Wharton). And besides (and I'm really asking here and hoping I'm wrong) hasn't Bobby Jones gone on the the Big Myron Florin Show in the sky? But I digress. I would certainly willing to split the day up among Hawaiian, Polka, TV Themes, and of course Dance and Active Rock (whatever that is). Just as long as we could include Roula & Ryan and Leslie T. Travis somewhere on the air staff! Then maybe EVERYBODY on this board would be happy!! Oh and we should simulcast it on some crappy daytime AM signal that nobody can hear outside the Loop except jras. (How is he by the way?)

Yeah - right - Hawaiian music station...That's a big ratings grabber. Perhaps that will be KGOW'S new format. I vote for POLKA - I just can't get enough Polka on KULP El Campo.

Colonel,

You have my vote... As long as you are the station manager and Kevin C is the Program Director ;D

Bobby Jones upon the last report I heard, was still missing and presumed drowned in the Colorado River. His car was found in the river, but as far as I've heard, his body has never been recovered.

Both of these formats would tank quick you have a better a chance of 740 going back to all news than getting these 2 formats here

I was thinking that a station that ran "ALL BOWLING, ALL OF THE TIME" would really be a huge money maker also, with Rula and Ryan that it.

Wow! John, that's a GREAT idea!! We could have Budweiser sponsor "The Beer Frame"!! Roula & Ryan could certainly do the play-by-play, and Leslie T. Travis could do commentaries about the lack of Dance and Active Rock Music on the alley's jukebox!! We could even have polka and hawaiian music playing on the overhead speakers. Sorta like background music, ya know? I'm on the phone with KULP's (That El Campo Powerhouse) management as we speak! I can smell the money, or is that shoe sanitizer?

How's this for the new TOH:

It starts with the sound efx of a powerful strike, then fade up the Frankie Yancovic's "Beer Barrel Polka"...

"K-U-L-P, El Campo...the station that's right up your alley! Uh...hello....can anybody hear me....hello!!!"

We'll get Moffett to cut it.

Hey Colonel,

Ya might add concert promotions to the mix and bring in some powerhouse polka and hawiian artists. You could open up with some local talents that fit the genre (Accordian acts & Hula/ukulele groups), and then wow the audience with the main show. Instead of using boring venues like Cynthia Woods Mitchell and the Toyota Center, just have them there in the bowling alley or in the cow pasture next door. During the band's breaks, the DJ could play television theme songs to keep the masses entertained.

Sounds like cutting edge radio broadcasting.... The wave of the future!!

go ahead and make fun of the little guy, smarty pants -- but I know for a fact that KULP makes more ad revenue $$ than quite a few Houston stations and has a measurable audience in five counties according to the County Arbitrons...not bad for 500 watts of pure polka-power.

better to put your bowling format on KPRC.

500 WHOLE WATTS!!!! WOW! And a MEASURABLE audience?!?!?! WHOA!! I've really been put in MY place.

But you're right. I really should put my all bowling/hawaiian/polka/tv themes/dance/active rock format on 950. I think Cynthia Hunt would do a MAGNIFICENT job, and besides at least KPRC has a core audience that says something besides "MOO!!"

Boy, do I ever hate the waste of good SARCASM!!!!

Aloha,

Colonel St. Smarty-pants

Like http://hawaiian105.com/ ?

Well, I think the Colonel has an excellent idea. Perhaps I could flash my Rock and Roll Army card for a few free frames?
Jim Pruitt in a Don Ho outfit. Wendy Miller in a straw skirt and a lei (schwing).....500 watts of bone crunching half rectified - amplitude modulated RF power.
Perhaps they can find the old Love Bus, chip the rust off it, remove the seats and line the floor with a foot of sand. Listeners can come by the "studio" and bowl in the sand with coconuts.
They could even have our favorite 420 DJ do a daily segment on the healthfulness of Hawaiian herbs!

Note: Used to dream of being promotions director...

...boy can dream sometimes, can't he?
