1. read recently that both lost in the neighborhood of 100 million last quarter. I think it would be pretty cool to work for a company that isn't concerned with something so pedestrian and quaint as 'making a profit'. Be much cooler to be able to do whatever we want without worrying about whether it makes the company profit or not.
2. 100 channels to program. Much cooler to not have to make hard decisions about what music fits a format or a station, when you've dozens and dozens of stations where you can chop slice and dice music into ever smaller pies. Like alternative. There's Fred for early alternative on XM. And Lucy and Ethel for newer alternative. And different formats for metal, classic rock, and even obscure classic rock (deep tracks). So much cooler to throw out 5+ different formats, than have to make the hard decisions to try and blend that into one mass appeal rock format. because makingthose hard decisions might piss off listeners who don't think you're playing enough grunge. Or think you're playing too much alternative, etc
3. And speaking of listeners, it's so much cooler to just worry about subscribers. Hey, i wouldn't have to worry anymore if people are listening to my station, I just have to know they wrote this months subscription fee check. In fact, it doesn't matter if a subscriber never listens, as long as they subscribe, we're a success. (Ignoring that whole thing in #1 about making a profit of course. When I say success, I mean successful in getting them to subscribe, not successful like most buisnesses are considered a success, which actually involve making money)
