Why KGB Sucks-Explained

8)Bob, question for you....when was the last time you honestly listened to Dave Shelly and Chainsaw's show for more than 5 minutes?
I usually respect your posts/opinions but your review of DSC sounds like a "past impression". I am a fan of those three goof balls but understand some of thier "bits" may not fly with some people. I like DSC because they are "LIVE" {the only jocks on the station that currently are "allowed" to do "LIVE" breaks} interacting with REAL callers - I tuned into Jef & Jer and tried to listen to them for at least one full morning but their lame ass laughing at nothing became almost as annoying as their obviously "shilled" callers. Sadly DSC can't save the station from the moron at the helm....the original subject of this discussion. Thanks for joining in!

Once again, a bunch of "opinions" and very little fact. Whether a show on KGB is voice-tracked or not is irrelevant. I worked there for 8 years-and unless I was on vacation-every break I did was live. That was until last May when I moved across the street (with The Beatles) to 105.7. Jim's "idea" to track shows as they were done were for your benefit. However, it wasn't something he thought of alone. Remember, he's working for a very large company with a lot of bosses. That's all I need to say about that. Ya know what else ? The stations added 5-8 seconds of digital delay to initially prevent any "fleeting profanity" from getting on the air. (Oh it still happened to the DSC a few months back)-because of the huge FCC fines that were threatened. It's also helped the stations match up the analog signal with the digital delay for HD. So very LITTLE of what you're hearing is "live" anymore. It may have happened 10-15 seconds earlier, or be voicetracked 5-10 minutes earlier. But c'mon. If you like it, LISTEN. If you DON'T like it, don't listen. The Arbitron Gods will eventually answer your prayers. If you think, for one minute that Jim Richards is solely responsible for what KGB sounds like these days, then you don't know what "consolidation" means.

Mason! check your cell phone!

Did you put on your angry mode this morning? good posts. See you on the radio.

Dave you are correct! But it is Jim Richards that they hired to hold the hammer, and drive the nails into the KGB coffin. But he alone is not responsible for the downward spiral at KGB he's just helping it along a little faster than the other PDs did. Todd Little (Hey Buddy) (Tad Smalls) actually did a good job with it especially when he had Coe Lewis as MD.

What I wish would have happened was that they had put you Dave on middays on KGB, and made you PD. I think you would have done a great job, and stopped the demise of the great KGB! You are one of the few people that understand the music, and really appreciate the herritage of that great station!

That's a -30-

I hate to disagree with you radeoengineer, but KGB already was not good when Jim was let go! It was done when John Lesley was asked to leave

I don't disagree with you. Jim was the exclamation point to the end of KGB for me, possibly with the exception of the firing of John Barcroft. You could point to numerous other events that marked the decline, but to rid the operation of one of the (arguably) best jocks in San Diego radio history (at least in the rock genre) was a moment that struck me particularly. I was once up against him in afternoon drive about 100 years ago, and he was as good every single day from the 70's on as the day he was dismissed.

Let's put it this way. Anyone who listens to DSC is an IQ of less than 5 and anyone who listens to KGB had an IQ of less than 5.5
then why have they been on the air since 1992??answer that one...i got to admit jim richards is a foul ball, but the dsc. love there show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!let the voice in the head go off on you!
Check yourself before you wreck yourself. DSC started at KGB in 1990.Look up DSC on wikipedia and see the whole story. Before that Dave worked in Chicago. ;D

To make KGB a better station is to get rid of the morning show (if you want to call it a show at all) close down the studio and hook an iPOD to the transmitter with 10,000 songs and let it roll baby!

a 10,000 song playlist will keep most people from listening.
