WIBG SOUNDS GREAT + GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME.

This is you chance to make your contribution to making WIBG the #1 station! I would email the link to this discussion to the kind folks at WIBG but there's not enough substance in your replies.. You're giving me vague generalities.. backroom discussions, you just know it, etc..

If I'm to present the link to the people, you've got to be more specific. I own a station and I can tell you with we don't have any backroom discussion about music. We determine what are the currents based on charting/listenership response and mix them accordingly with the genre (rock, rhythmic, pop, etc) and tempo. We mix in a variety of gold music as there are never enough currents. Automation scheduling does the rest when we're not live... I guess what I'm trying to say is what's specfically wrong with music mix? please give me specifics.. songs segways etc..

With that said, WIBG is listening - they want all listeners to contribute to put them where they need to be #1 Oldies at the Jersey Shore. You can make that difference- you're up to bat! Don't do it for yourselves, do it for the memories, WIBG ....josh

So let us het this straight, you want us to program the station though a message board. LMAO! For FREE?!?!? Really LMAO!
No, they should HIRE someone to do the job. I am sure there are a few qualified folks on here looking for work.

Back to how it is on the air...I am listening last night around 1-2am and out of the blue comes YMCA followed by 2 other disco songs, then
back to some good oldies. Plus they play the same "already tired liners" OVER & OVER, not only that, quite a few play back to back!

So some FREE advice, tell them to start there, lol.

HI SETH,

That's a good a start. You're indicating that songs repeat or there is not enough separation before a song is replayed. Also, you don't like the mix of newer to older oldies. thanks! josh

Josh,
Please re-read my post...TY
Unless you are looking to get a job with them, I would leave this alone. They need a lot of work.
They are not much better than when they were in Wildwood. That's the hard truth. They need to hire a person
that knows what they are doing. Period.

I love WIBG'S music selection & great jocks but I guess it's all a matter of taste.

Seth, you will have to agree though that it's, "Where Our Friends Are."

OMG... I just threw up a little in my mouth... you are such a kool-aid drinker... put down the pom-poms and take off the skirt... we're not interested in unabashed cheerleading here... especially after you have 3 pages of people telling you the station sucks... please... it's getting so painful to see your responses... and I know I should just stop reading... but it's such a train wreck you just have to look...

MODIFICATION:

I just realized what's going on here people... Josh is getting us to talk about this station and keep this thread going for attention... there's no way he can read all the posts here and keep going along... I feel so stupid...

whose friends? i don't have any friends there.
I just know bad radio when I hear it.
Listen, bottom line, it's not the music, it's how and when it's played, etc. A station has a very limited time to capture a listener and hook them...this station has no "bait".

I wrote a post months ago, concerning my email to the late morning/afternoon jock, asking him to play; "Pictures of Matchstick Men by Status Quo", due to the fact, he was constantly yelling about emailing him your request and he would definitely play it.....Not only did he not play it, I never received a reply for my request via email as he said....Bottom Line, that would never happen with the old WIBBAGE, Jerry, Bill, Joe, Hy and Frank would not only play my requests but mention me and my location on the air...so you see this is not following in the footsteps of the original WIBBAGE...

I would beg to differ. I believe things are changing for the better at WIBG since they took it over from the owners of WILW. It's no longer THE STATUS QUO. 8)

Josh, no offense, but this is getting funny. You say you own a station, yet you can not see what everyone else sees (and hears). Just because you paste some old liners and bits from an ICON in with some great songs, doesn't make you better. In fact it's a train wreck! It does not flow. They are no better now than when they were WILW. At least when the station was ILW it had some nice liners and even a decent web site for a while. They have had enough time to turn it around. They need to hire someone with direction and experince in all the things that make a station stand out. They need a product to sell. Programming flow, promotions, web site, marketing, etc. all make a product that can be sold. The people who bought that station probably know this and maybe do not have a budget for someone like that but they need someone who can do this and until then, they will be STATUS QUO. Geez, at least answer a guys email !!!

OK... I'll be the first to post it... although I think the station sounds like total crap (see alll of my previous posts)... it got a 1.7 (12+) which I would never have thought it would... I did take a minute to ask someone who has the data about it and they only said that it still didn't do much in the Atlantic County part of the market... which sucks for them since they spent all that money on the move of the signal... so, we'll see where they go from here... they got dangerously close to a 2.0, in which case one of the posters to this thread would be obligated to eat their hat...

Hi Up n DOwn,

Excellent observation about the lack of Atlantic County numbers but I believe with continued community involvement, more promotion of the station, etc.. we'll see the numbers go up... and that will be good news for all except the guy that has to eat his hat. josh

I guess people in Atlantic County are happy with WTKU. Indeed, more promoton and community efort will surely get the station known.

Yes, I agree. As more people in the community are made aware of WIBG its listenership will grow.

WIBG - Great jingles & personality driven radio! josh

No doubt, this is the josh that works at the station in the production dept. Rick b probably pays josh to put these comments on radio -info or josh just has terrible taste and has never heard the ORIGINAL WIBG...thats why the latest ratings show WIBG continues to show poor ratings...no better than when it was in Wildwood...why do you think Bob at coastal unloaded it...he knew it was a loser...its nothing more than the old WILW with different call letters...same rick r ,same stale oldies, same stale format....thats why no one in Atlantic county wants to buy any radio time on that station...undoubtably one of the worst, if not the worst station in South Jersey and the signal in parts of Atlantic County is terrible...thats why folks wont advertise on the station...the best thing that they could do with that station is change the format ASAP and hire ALL NEW employees or just shut the transmitter off and save electricity......

I'm not sure I understand this. Bob Charger is the morning guy . How could he sell the station when he is only an employee? I never heard anything about Bob owning the station.

In any event, WIBG is a radio station that brings those fond memories of yesterday to our speakers today. Who could ask for more? josh

rob1010 is talking about the owner of Coastal, Bob Maschio.

The only fond memories of the real WIBG this mess brings back is like
one second of a jingle before it cuts off to delete the "99"

It certainly has possibilities, with a new clean (not MP3) music library,
clean jingles, get rid of the old geezer announcers who add nothing
and don't know when to STFU.

This comment makes me laugh. Since back in the days of Jerry,Bill,Joe,Hy,and Frank there was no internet for them to reply to your E-mail request.
Bottom Line. Rick Rock Does Play requests, and puts the callers on the air. He may not always be looking at the Email Screen in the studio
I have Heard recordings of the Old Wibbage. This is 2010... Funny now that Wibbage is Back. If its not making a dent in the market. Then explain to me
Why another Un-named station is switching its format to Compete with WIBG...
I think someone said 1.7( 12+) market share? and would be worred It it hit 2.0....
If Im Not mistaken Its not a (12+) share market. Its only a (2.2 )( Not saying that I could be wrong about this.)
People are making Positive Comments about the station...
The Station Really went online after the summer season. Lets see what happens this Summer..... I have a few hats for someone to Eat.
Im not a betting Man. But I will Bet if I know its a sure thing.
I did not See anywhere that Josh Said He owned a station. However I have 2.

Just Call Me Ralph........ ;D

No offense but, take your blinders off, if you think that is a good product, then I feel sorry for your two stations. Josh himself in another post said he owned a station. As far as Rock's phone bits, most are horrible, too long and with out substance for the most part. Have you ever heard him sign off, it takes 2-3 minutes! I do not believe anyone here said it couldn't be done, they need a real programmer & promotions person there.

sethjamz,

It is true, my friend that I do own a station but it is not WIBG and we're not affiliated with it.

With that said, I do appreciate all terrestrial radio stations. They all, in their special way have something to give back to the community.... WIBG is one of my treasured favorites.... I can't help but listen and think back to when I was a young whippersnapper listening to WIBG & WFIL on my little transistor radio in Bellmawr, NJ.

I remember both stations being played over the loud speakers at Bellmawr Lake.. I can still remember a radio announcer introducing one of my favorite songs by Paul Revere and the Raiders, Let Me.
